First Post!
Hello all, starting a AOS/40K Daemon army and looking to have all four power represented.

Want to start by having:
1x foot solider unit
1x cavalry unit
1x beast/monster unit
1x hero

Then work up to having the four greater daemons and beasts of chaos/dragon ogre army in too.

Starting out with slanesh and khorne,
Enjoy

Hello all

First proper post of the blog, first near finished units for the army. Liking the idea of having the colored trim on the bases denoting each god but then having the bases themselves link the whole force together. Potentially even having small features like splashes of blood on the Khorne models or Pus for the Nurgle ect, we'll see. Aaaaanyway.

BLOODCRUSHERS
Snow bases and potentially another red highlight on the skin of these guys to go, but pretty happy with them overall.

Infernal Enrapturess
First hero of the army 90% done, just go the snow and some dead grass left. (picking up this week)

Seekers of Slaanesh
Again, just bases left on these guys. very happy with how these guys turned out especially the seekers skin.

next units on the bench ATM:

Karanak,
10x Bloodletters
5x flesh hounds

2x seekers of slanesh
10x Daemonettes
3x fiends

+
a bunch of Nurgle bits and bobs on the way (Poxwalker, 10xPlague bearers, 3xNurglings)

And that's all for now thanks for looking and comments appreciated.

I think the mounted bloodletters could use a little bit more highlighting, but otherwise, good work. I'm also glad to be the first comment on your work!

It a great start on a blog. A great way to get a great colour for khorne daemons is using a watered down tamyia clear red (usually used for gore effects) as a glaze. It really darkens the tone ups more blood colour.

Keep up the solid work, you'll have an army painted before I finish a model at thus rate

Thanks for the comments guys, i agree. I think i wanna get everything "Battle ready" so i can start playing some games (First time in 5 years?) and then go back and really make them pop. Well in theory anyway.

Army update, all gods now represented quite a cool feeling to have all of them represented. Going to finish the Slaanesh + Khorne units first and then go from there finishing/ adding units as i go. Still sticking too a: Hero x1, Monster/larger x3, Cavalry x5, Infantry x10 which i think will translate atm too:

Khorne: Karanak, Bloodcrushersx3, Flesh houndsx5, Bloodlettersx10
Slaanesh: Infernal Entraptress, Fiendsx3, Seekersx5, Daemonettesx10
Nurgle: Poxbringer, Plague Dronesx3, Nurglingsx5, Plaguebearersx10
Tzeentch: ?, Screamersx3, Flamersx5, Horrorsx10 (+blue horrors just because, rule of cool)
Then After this, Greater Daemons and probably Be'lakor (maybe even first)

Last bit, finished the Flesh hounds (apart from snow+dead grass) and same for these Seekers. Hoping to get a decent amount of stuff finished today as well.

Anyway thanks for looking

Hey all hope your all well,
so, thoughts?

What do we think of the snow? I'm going to get some dead snow grass tufts to put on too but whats the concensus on the bases atm? Think I'm going to add a god related feature to each "sets" base to differentiate a bit (blood on the khorne models, trinkets for slaanesh? Ect) but generally think this will be the look.

Also finished 1st five Daemonettes whoop whoop
Thanks for looking

Thank man much appreciated, first time I'm doing an army (slaanesh) where I feel like I have to be reeeally neat on every miniature, but feels like it's paying off which is cool

So got excited and started to mess a round with nurgle schemes, not for sure yet but like where these are going. First time painting nurgle and really want to get these guys looking genuinely disgusting. Going to really lean into bodily fluids like poop, vomit, blood and bile. See a lot of gross nurgle guys but not too many covered in "chocolate" so might go down that route for a different scheme/emphasis.

Thoughts always appreciated, thanks for looking

Update on the stinky Boi's

Wip: getting there, added some blood to the guts and some boils to the boys. Pretty happy with them as "testers" and think once finished will focus on finishing everything else (slaanesh+Khorne) pre focusing on nurgle stuff too soon.
(still very fun to mix it up though )

Allllso, received an excellent gift today

Looking foward to getting these guys sorted, thinking a unit of 5/6 as my Tzeentch 5 and going pretty blue for the colour scheme.
Exciting

As always thanks for looking and comments always appreciated

Picked these guys up a while ago with the idea of playing kill team (still haven't got round to it yet). Quite a simple scheme but quite happy with how they turned out. Mostly just in love with the sculpts on these guys. Not sure about based yet but potentially snow as well, I do like the new arks of the omen based though? Let's see

Also sergent/lieutenant/captain? Idk

Great little minis, got lucky and inherited these from the back of a school cupboard about 15years ago very lucky

So, painting red. Got all my khorne daemons up to a tabletop standard (which is great because I'd love to start playing some games) but definitely want to ramp up this red a little bit. Just feels a bit dull (especially for daemons tearing into the mortal realm to reap some skulls). Also, not sure about the horns on the Bois. Think plan is to get this red going and then revisit it but considering fading them into a decent black? We'll see.

Anyone got a good poppin red recipe?

Thanks for look and comments appreciated

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

More contrast I'd think? Wash down or just start from something like vallejo hull red, and go for a more orange red for highlights? My usual is hull red base coat, violet red (I think MSP? Its a red, not a violet), ferrari red, maybe amaranth red if I want to push it as highlights?

Other thought would actually be adding more lights, like a (non saturated so you don't get Christmas) green, or greenish or khaki white to get some hue to pop the red against?
They're nicely painted regardless.

Thanks guys,
Ill order these in + continue to play around with them and see what i can come up with. Thanks

Thoughts from the Dakanaughts please

Im really looking forward to 10th edition. I've been out of the hobby for 5/6 years and would love a chance to get back into the game and the idea of it being easy to get into it is something that really appeals.

In addition when i started my first real army back in 4th edition i collected NIDs. Battle of Macragge box set was my first venture into building an army and with the edition of a couple of hastily assembled carnifex's i was hooked. Ended up building up to having a 3000+ point army with about 8-10 carnifexs, hive tyrants, hordes of Gaunts and even some forge world pieces, but when i got out of the hobby i sold off most of my stuff and my Nid army was over.

Spoiler:
Cant find the most up to date pictures but this is most of what i had + some forge world pieces. was in the process of repainting the entire army as well which was a mission, so first picture was all i had managed to redo 2nd is an idea of what i had.

back to the present, i am really liking the idea of starting the new edition with the new Nids and new marines,
buuuuuut what about my other collections, i dont want to have too many different armys on the burner at the same time and i think tbh im done with my Minotaurs. Lots of different models from different editions but im wondering if now would be a good time to sell them and use the money to invest in the new armys for the new editions or whether it would be better to keep them especially dependent on the future of 1st born marines in the next iterations of the game? (alllllso though, just realised ive never had a "finished" army before. something i would consider done, and i never really got to play with this one when i had finished it? if i sell it i would be commiting to continuing to have WIP armys into the new edition. hmmmmmm?)

So the summarise all that: ???SHOULD I SELL MY 1ST BORN TO GET NEW NIDS AND PRIMARIS IN 10TH???
Im going to continue to mull it over and i've got plenty of time before the new edition but thoughts from the community would be much appreciated.

in line with that last pics from my Minotaurs collection below, only thing missing now is a pic of Asterion Moloc and a decent group shot. Anyway enjoy the pic dump

As always thanks for looking and comments and feedback always appreciated.
Thanks

Hello and happy Easter Dakanaughts, hope you've had a cracking Easter weekend and you managed to get loads of hobby stuff done
I managed to finish (although i forgot to finish the bases purple rim pre pics ) the 2nd Fiend and the last 2 seekers
WHICH MEANS IM ALMOST DONE WITH THE SLAANESH STUFF IVE GOT!!! WHOOP WHOOP!!
love the models but its been a bit of a grind with these guys at points, aaaaanyway to the pics

Then of course both the boys (/girls/things) together, reeeally looking forward to having the whole squado finished, such a spicy unit as well ATM in the rules (from the little exposure i've had in test games they seemed to perform really well so looking forward to getting these guys going against some stormcast or w/e in the near future).

And now the seekers

Again really happy to have these guys completed as well. Although it might not seem it in comparison to the works of some of the Artisans on here but this is my first proper "Neat" and tidy army and it took aaaages to make sure i didn't rush through just to get them completed. Was one of the reasons i wanted to do the an army of all of the four powers in the first place, the challenge of doing something that was so different to the army's that i had done before and would push me to have to try new things and get better with each factions focus. Anyway blah blah blah, last bit.

Made my first flamers of tzeentch happy to realise there are multiple head and arm options so when i make the full 6 should be able to create a decent amount of variety. Think after i get the last Fiend done and "finish" the Slaanesh army (until Greater Daemons) Tzeentch will be my next focus.
Got the 6x flamers of Tzeentch and 10x Horrors so far, next buys will be the Blue Horrors box and 3x Screamers? but not sure on the order atm and not sure on who to lead them. Think i want a generic hero for Tzeentch and Nurgle as they will both have a 1xHero, 3xMidLarge, 6xMid, 10x Infantry Army structure, and i think if i went named characters for Heros the balance between the forces might be a bit off (want to be able to lend mini forces to friends for mini god vs god games eventually).

And that is that guys, thanks for looking and as always comments much appreciated, until next time

So bit of a change in direction. The main reasons i wanted an all 4 powers chaos army was because
1) Rule of cool
2) i could play the army in both AOS and 40k
3) So i could challenge myself to paint and make models i've never considered before

Since then i've realised:
*That i cant play the army as i want in AOS (because the chaos powers are not linked in AOS and therefor can only mix a small percentage of models by using the ally system)
*That i feel its not worth learning the current 40k rules for the army yet as it will be pretty soon before next ed and ill just start up new with everyone else when they release the new datasheets for each army.

So that left me in a bit of a weird place model wise for the time being, untill......

BEASTMEN!

nice go between, literally dusted off my old Beastmen and will be giving them a refresh to act as my main AOS army for the time being before playing any 40k with my daemons in 10th. This is what i've got so far Gors/character wise

That said the Gors arnt really the star of this army, when i was playing AOS all those years ago I used to run a dragon/dragon ogre focused army led by Galrauch the first of the Chaos Dragons and of course a dragon army had to have Plenty of Dragons.

Blue Eyes White Dragon:
(bonus points if you know the reference, used to run him as an carmine dragon and fluff an Albino black dragon escaped from Naggaroth)

Warpfire Dragon:

and of course
Galrauch the first of the Chaos Dragons
(made from a rescued classic Egrimm Van Horstmann on Chaos Dragon)

loved this little army in the last edition and used to just use the different datasheets from each force and play chill games with friends. Coming back into the hobby would be great to get these guys back to the table but just not sure as what yet?
Maybe use the Beastmen armybook as a base but tbh im not sure?
(Open to suggestions )

Still gotta Dust off 2x Dragon Ogre Shaggoths and 6x classic metal dragon ogres (will post when done )
then got the last Fiend almost done (which completes the Slanesh force ,which means onto TZEENTCH)
and then have another left of field project i wasn't expecting, but more on that next time.
Thanks for looking, comments and feedback much appreciated.

Saw yours mate, very solid stuff (gotta say your blog is really getting me considering 3D printing as the way to go forward) thanks for the comment

Hello all, Major milestone reached today,
took 6 months but have finally finished the the Slannesh army which completes my first two chaos gods battle forces and leaves me in a decent place coming into 40k 10th ed for playing some small games. Really happy with them and really happy to be able to take a break from them and mix it up painting something else.

So that leads me onto what next? would have seen earlier in the blog just i just unearthed my old Dragon Ogre/Beastmen army (picks of the dusted off version coming soon) but in doing that discovered/remembered how much other stuff i just had knocking around.
When i stopped hobbying about 5 years ago i essentially just paused all the different projects i had going on at the time and tbh i had forgotten what i had and what i was working on. One of those projects I was a small Storm-cast Eternals army.

Think this is going to be my next army focus and looking through a lot of the models are left at around 50-60% complete so shouldn't take too long and will be a nice change of pace.

with that said
current List of things to do:

*Making magnetized model storage boxes for easy transport/safe storage (dragon ogres, Stormcast)
*Beastigors x20 (paint bases)
*Bray Shamen (re paint)

*Magnetizing all Stormcast
*Magnetizing all dragon/dragon ogres

*Liberators x10 (paint bases)
*Retibutors x8 (paint+base)
*Lord Aquilor (Lord on gryph) (paint base)
*Vandus HammerHand (Lord on draccoth) (finish painting)
*Judicators x10 (Paint+base)
*Gryph hounds (base paint)
*Lord-Relictor (base)

*Horrors x10 (paint+base)
*Tzeentch Flammers x6 (paint+base)
*plague bearers x10 (paint+base)
*Nurglings x3 (paint+base)
*poxbringer (paint/base)

Looking at it like this its a lot to keep myself busy for a while. Going to aim to work through all of this before i buy any new models as well, not a fan of having stuff unfinished and still getting more new (unfinished) stuff to just add ontop. Think im going to work through this and then give myself the reward once finished of picking up a new something (like a Slannesh or Khorne greater Daemon or ?). That said i am keep to pick up the AOS BOC generals hand book to start playing some games in AOS and will be keen to try and get some games in with my Daemons and Spacemarine Minotaurs once the new edition drops and the rules and datasheets are dropped for free.

Thats all for now guys, thanks for looking and as always comments and feedback much appreciated.
Thanks

Which designer/company? Alot of the greater daemons I'm seeing look awesome and in some cases better then the GW stuff.

Cheeky little double update, just finished (tabletop standard 10 of the beastigors)

EManG , the warhammer total war inspired stuff. Im the same, I’m loving avatars of war stuff. Last sword is looking interesting as well. If you think about printing, once you have the printer it saves a lot of cash and you get a lot of nee friends

Great little update on the beastmen, I happen to have a file for gor from avatars of war

Thanks man, the total war designs are kinda what rekindled my interest in the hobby again. Would love a N'kari for my Slannesh and a Skarbrand for my khorne. Going to do proper research but might give you a message once I've got a better idea of what to look for.
(I'm not surprised about the gors at all sure we'll see 5k of printed gors, Minotaurs and ghourgons on your plog at some point )

So update, dusted off the Shaggoths and had to get some group shots of course. One of my all time favourite projects was completing this army, of course that was a while ago now so considering going back and redo little bits here and there but for now, very happy with this little force. Feels unique and fun and always enjoy seeing it go against other forces on the table.

Dragon Ogre shaggoth (LOR troll+carnifex bits and a balrog tail)

classic dragon ogre shaggoth (plasticard axe +some additional armour)

Classic metal dragon ogres x6

Really happy with these guys and really fun to play with back in the day (hopefully once my storage options come back to the tabletop again soon). Used to enjoy the idea the shaggoths were leading the smaller ogres as a small clan and play in that style on the tabletop
Having the red/khorne ogres on one flank and the purple/slannesh on the other.

Aaaanyway, loads of updates this week. Been really fortunate with time recently but that's probably not going to be the same on the next couple weeks. Next project on the desk right now, the other 10x beastigors and a bray shamen and have ordered the materials for the magnatised storage boxes (considering posting a how too on here as I go)

Finally, thanks for looking, comments and feedback always appreciated

Some really cool stuff going on here Barry! The dragons and dragon-ogres are super cool, hopefully you can get them in to your daemon armies for some games.

As for your earlier question about selling stuff. I get the vibe that you like a bit of variety in your work. So I’d say keep hold of your older armies to throw in a bit of variety. I think you said you regretted getting rid of your old Tyranids, so there’s another reason.

Keep up the awesome work!
