What is your favorite dinosaur? (It doesn't actually have to be a dinosaur if it is extinct and from millions of years ago it still counts)

Ankylosaurus is mine. Angry turtle is best turtle.

Spoiler:

Auto-correct keeps trying to change ankylosaurus to tyrannosaurus.

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

Probably a Plesiosaur, and mainly because I was weirdly fixated on The Loch Ness monster and Champ, its North American version, as a child.

I always liked Baryonyx; maybe because it was a new discovery when I was a kid, but I think mostly because we actually have pretty good evidence for it’s lifestyle, rather than the usual speculation. I like the mental image of this dinosaur wading in the shallows hooking salmon out of the river like a modern day bear:

Probably Triceratops for me.

As a tiny snivellin’ lirrul Grot, pretty much every book had the T-Rex and Triceratops front and centre.

T-Rex has a big gob, but silly wee arms. Triceratops has Face Stabbas and Head-Shield. They am the best.

Deinonychus, always thought they were awesome things from the dinosaur book I had as a kid. Was surprised to discover more recently that the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park were actually the Deinonychus - just Crichton preferred the other name...

Pachycephalosaurus is the dinosaur for me! The name rolls off the tongue nicely and as a kid it always fascinated me that is had a 9 inch thick skull with a walnut sized brain. It boggled my mind that an animal could function perfectly fine with a brain that size (given that I had a relative understanding of how big my own brain was). It also presented me with one of my favourite scenes in The Lost World, where the InGen mercs are trying to capture the dinos and the Pachy headbutts one clean through a car. Loved it as wee tacker.

I'm also more then chuffed to see that we're only 6 posts in and that 3 of my other favourite dinos have already been mentioned in this thread. Ankylosaurus, Triceratops and Deinonychus. Spinosaurus rounds out my top 5! (Can you tell Jurassic Park had a big influence on my young mind )

One of my old school mates is a palaeontologist. I'm led to believe he's going to be on the upcoming tyrannosaurus episode of Stephen Fry's current dinosaur TV programme...

I’m with you on the ankylosaurus. I remember way back in the day writing a report on them, and scuplting one out of clay. Always have a special place in my heart.

I think my brother had an old Airfix ankylosaurus back 30+ years ago! Dad painted it for him. I had a diplodocus I think it was. Dad made a spirited attempt at shading the creases in the skin, bless him!

Not a true dinosaur, but an extinct reptile I was always partial to the Dimetrodon. Probably because he was always in the little plastic toy dino packs.

The Dimetrodon.
I've always thought it was one of the coolest looking dinos.

It’s probably a toss up between a Spinosaurus and an Archaeopteryx for me.

My favorite was always the Triceratops. It looked cool, and was the one herbivore that was always portrayed as capable of kicking a Tyrannosaurus' , back when I was a kid. Always dug that.

As for others there are several. But if I had to choose: Brachyosaurus. Mainly due to this cool fella in the berlin natural science museum that I visited often as a kid:

Oooh, tricky.

I will have to go for parasaurolophus though. Always had a soft-spot for hadrosaurs, and the hollow skull structures of parasaurolophus intrigue me.

I always liked the Allosaurus. I think because it was like a less well known t-rex.

Dilophosaurus has been my favourite since childhood. Jurassic Park cemented it early on with its weird frilled vemon spitting variant (and the water spouting toy), but even after the initial disappointment of understanding that it was mostly made up, the looks just were undeniably awesome. I'm subscribed to a couple of palaeontology related YT channels and still get excited whenever new revelations about the dilo happen to show up in my feed.

I think stegosaurus for me. The armoured played down the back always look amazing, no matter how terrible the plastic toy

My favourite dinosaur though is also the fastest animal in the world. Peregrine Falcon.

Triceratops for me

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Well, if we go that route then my favorite is the chicken.

I am also amazed that Sharks, crocodiles, and some other creatures are mostly unchanged from those past versions.

I love how dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets have come full circle.

Also, plastic dinosaurs are made from real dinos.

Spinosaurus for me. Those are arms!

Got a lot of love for the carnataurus, ceratasaurus, baryonyx and the acrocanthasaurus as well. Yes I have a 4 year old going through the dinosaur phase. And yes he has been getting the really nice papo dinosaur toys. And yes, when he outgrows them, they will be mine...
