If you are using magnet sheeting on your carry trays or movement bases, and you use a rare earth magnet on the base, does the north south orientation of the rare earth magnet matter?

I've been using thin steel sheeting in my carry trays and they work great, but en masse they get a little heavy. I was hoping to switch to magnetic sheets, but I wanted to know if orientation is a factor ( since my minis are already magentized. )

Thanks for anyone with experience in this.

I don’t think it maters.

I’ve started setting up boxes and have found that the grip from the magnetic sheets is pathetic compared to sticking the mins on a steel ruler. I’m looking into options for getting steel into the bottom of my boxes. Just works so much better.

I have a local place that does custom cuts. It's not expensive if you get a lot. I guess I will stick to steel.

Go to your local HVAC company and see how much galvanized sheet is. Thinnest gauge available will work

Galvanized steel is heavy. Plus, most HVAC metalworkers are unlikely to have anything under 24 GA. You're better off with going with craft tin sheets from likes of K&S

My preferred magnet vendor has a disclaimer on their magnetic sheet product page, which claims that using neo-dymium magenets on magnetic sheets de-magnetizes the sheets.

Please note

Magnets should not be placed on self-adhesive magnetic sheets, because they would demagnetise the sheets. Suitable surfaces for magnets are our magnetic boards or iron sheets, for example.

My recommendation is to use thin steel sheets, either in plastic boxes or on thin (2/8", 6mm) plywood and use magnetic sheets or neo-dymium magnets under the bases.
The orientation of the magnets doesn't matter for steel sheets.

Magnetic sheets tend to be heavier than thin (0,5mm) steel sheets. They are not denser, but they are thicker, at about 1,5-2mm.
If you use magnetic sheets in your boxes or trays, you should use washers or other ferrous metal parts under your mini-bases.
