Just crossed my desk, but I can't find any info on it anywhere (outside of a 1MAR trademark filing), so figured I'd add it here.

Best Hobby Games is a brand new company out of Raleigh, NC creating a Sci Fi game "Zeo Genesis."

What makes it stand out to me is that the game design is by Andy Chambers, and narrative design by Gav Thorpe. Both will be at Adepticon next week, demoing their new game and miniatures.

Anyone dig up any other info?

I can only say that they took an impressive jab at getting the most generic-sounding, non google-able name for their game humans could possibly imagine

The rest of it sounds interesting, we'll see what they actually came up with at Adepticon.

Agreed. Very generic name.

Interesting that a small start up company already owns the machinery to make hard plastic minis. Keeping that in house should help to alleviate a lot of production woes like what Privateer Press faced when they tried to go to plastic.

Absolute lack of any info about the game makes it hard to really be interested though, so hoping their booth and demo games at GenCon really hit a home run for them.

Singling out design by Andy Chambers could be a selling point, but has anyone ever said to themselves, "You know what this new IP needs to get it over the top? Narrative design by Gav Thorpe!"?

No but seriously is it gonna be non-IP infringing Evangelion? I would play the feth out of an Andy Chambers kaiju game.

Signs point to 'Yes', their lead art dude is Dan Morison, who has, among others, done a lot of Art for LANCER: https://massifpress.com/lancer

If it gets me Lancer- style ridiculous mechs, I'm in.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Or, if it's like Gundam, this could be just one style of many. Might be a Zaku-analogue?

Sure, but it's also the size. Defo looks like the "barely larger than a power suit" type.

Monster Apoc as a game has done well (though I've heard the KS for it has hit huge financial problems due to the parent company doing it - which isn't PP); though its always had a cartoony style to the models. So there'd 100% be space in the market for a giant mecha/monster serious artistic take game.

AT has also done really well despite being mirror match and is the same big-mechs battling game.

Definitely room on the market for several more mech games in various combinations of mech size, design style, game scale, play style...

For me, the magic words are "hard plastic". Is there any mecha game that's currently like that, other than AT?

I'm a big mecha wonk, and already a fan of the Lancer designs; this is going to be the first booth I hit at adepticon, I'm just so dang curious.

Well, there's Heavy Gear, but the polar factions' sprues are singularly horrible.

Color me interested. The mechs and art style are very cool.

The quality of the minis will make or break this - of they can capture that style...

Apparently Dan Morison is also attached to this project (link), he did some artwork for GW in the past (Chaos Knights and Genestealer Cults animated stuff if I'm not mistaken).

Those look like 3D prints with a fair bit of support scarring. Gun arm looks very interesting and if they are working in plastics then these might well just be test models from the 3D designs (I'd assume the moulds would be made from CAD rather than master resin models)

Those are 3-D Prints, all of our Adepticon demo minis are. Preform did a terrible job of calling out the mini collision in that print.

Booth #915 if you want to come by and see us. It will be fairly low key; starter set and first expansion miniatures and tons of playtest/demos in Adventure Hall.

Andy & Gav on hand for both.

Yes to hard plastic, modularity, etc.

Don't pin your hopes on kaiju, but more details to come.

This is the "second edition" of the game made with Donkus' blessing. Anybody who goes into that game with a more casual versus competitive mindset will be able to play some genuinely thematic and fun games.

Liking more and more of what I see with Zero Genesis though, starting to give me a more VOTOMS vibe with what I can glance of the mechs.

I was able to go by the booth and loved what I saw, then headed out to the floor and watched a demo game.

It played fast, had mechanics I could pick up on as a bystander, and I loved the card terrain/boards.

Got to chat up Gav after the game and then Andy a bit later... this thing has serious potential and is a sleeper hit!

Gav told me about how Andy got him on board Zeo Genesis during Covid lockdown and we discussed how difficult things have been over the past few years as well as how wonderful it is to be able to travel again and talk face to face without masks. Gav also told me about the scalability of the game... you can quickly start off with the initial set for a good 1v1 skirmish, then add sets/more forces to expand your table into bigger armies or 1v2 / 2v2 very easily.

Andy told me this is the first game he's worked on that has him "truly excited" since his work on Dropfleet Commander - and as a big Dropfleet fan I think that's a good thing!! He said it was so refreshing to work on "stompy robots that could actually happen" or something along those lines... as a Dropfleet fan my head was back there for a moment.

Anyway, this is an insta-buy for me when it comes out and I recommend y'all look closely at it.
