Hey all, sorry if it’s too soon to say but I was impressed with the beastmen kill-team announced recently. I think they’d make a cool addition to my creations of bile army but will they be usable in 40K? There’s no other codex entry for them

They will probably get a datasheet to use them in 40k published on the website, just like the other Killteams that have no codex entry.

Valrak also mentioned that there was an 'Agents of the Imperium' codex coming that collected some of that stuff, maybe Chaos will get something similar, like a proper 'Lost and the Damned' codex for some of the odds&ends.

Give it a few months and see what comes in 10th ed, the clock is very much ticking on the current codexes.

I was rather hoping, back when all we knew was the name, that the WE Jakhals were going to be Khorngors. But nope, gakky berserk cultists...

I'm hoping for 40k Khorngors, Pestigors, Slaangors (these just need a conversion kit for the great AoS kit like the Tzaangors), and also Imperial beastmen abhuman auxiliaries.

I like options.

Would have been nice if they did something different for the mortals, like well-drilled Khorne knights that practiced bloodletting through the application of close-ranged firepower or something. Not the umpteenth variant on Khorne berzerker cultists we've seen.

It would be nice to see GW return to their roots on some of the lore. I always liked the old "Khorne also likes heat and fire" theme where they incorporated Khornate Havocs who liked the heat of the Plasma Cannons. I think it was Mk V power armor that was prone to coolant issues and became preferred by the World Eaters.
Maybe bring back the old school Cannon of Khorne thing. They could make a unit of Khornate snipers who maim their targets for blood and actually avoid headshots so the heads can be taken later.

While I was disappointed that we got Jakhals instead of Khorngors, Khorngors I think would work better as a fast attack unit, especially since the World Eaters have only one of those at the moment. It would be awesome to have packs of dog-men running up the board.

Not too convinced on Beastmen in 40k. For me it's something you meet on a road from Altdorf to Talabheim, not something you encounter in space. What exactly creates this mutation on a space hulk? Local population of wild goats or cattle from space? Everyone knows they are created when shepherds give in to their unnatural urges when Morrslieb is in full moon.

Beastmen are abhumans in 40k, which is why there are Imperial examples. They are stable strains like Ogryn. However, beastmen do seem to be more prone to the depredations of Chaos and can obviously mutate unstably, such as with Tzaangors.

They are treated much worse than other abhumans, it wouldn’t take much for them to turn to another power. There’s no beastmen in the guard, not even in the penal legions as far as I am aware

Gor Half-horn from Necromunda is a former Guard Beastman, which means there's definitely Beastmen Abhuman regiments in the "modern" Guard.

The 4th edition abhumans doctrine rules included Homo sapiens Variatus (beastmen - guardsmen with Furious Charge).

Was that in the codex, or a White Dwarf or something?

Pretty sure it was in the main rule book. Same place where they named all the abhumans.
That's when they introduced anime cat girls to the setting. Homo-felinis or something.

Since when did the 4th edition rulebook contain Imperial Guard doctrines?

'Chapter Approved: Abhumans' in White Dwarf 303 (UK), pg.44
(Alongside nightsiders, subs, afriel strain, feral ogryns, gland warriors, and slave levies)
