I'm in the midst of 3d printing a 40k Scale Imperator titan, in the style of the old Epic scale model. The plans have a great deal of modularity, so I can do weapon swaps in the future if I need to, though I doubt very much if this thing will ever get anything close to official 40k rules.

My question comes down to the pattern. Warmonger, or Emperor style? There are things about each that I like, and things about both that I hate. I prefer the Warmonger's quad flack batteries, but loath the little landing platform, much preferring the look of the domed temple of the Emperor. I like the Emperor's plasma arm, but really like the giant missile rack of the Warmonger.

How many critics do you think I'd have if I hybridized the two designs?

I think hybridizing the two is the way to go, personally.

Each Imperator is more or less unique anyway, an individual work of art whose construction is as much an expression of religious and artistic devotion as a practical matter of war, and 'types' for them are more of a gameplay conceit than actually fluff-accurate.

In my opinion, the cathedral-back is the more compelling of the two options, and also where you should go absolutely hog-wild with details! Use the possibilites of 3D printing to the fullest, have weird gargoyles everywhere, crenelated pillars, gothic arches, stained-glass windows, flying buttresses, the whole shebang and with every imaginable cherry on top!

It's an Imperator titan at 40K scale - you pick whatever you really want to put on the table because whatever you put on the table its going to be VAST, impressive and a massive sink of time and money no matter how its built.

I would 100% say go hybrid if there are parts of both you like and you just want to have an utterly awesome model on the table and not have to worry about magnets and slots to give you choices - esp at that scale where chances are most magnets won't hold up the huge parts reliably.

And since rules are basically "if you take this model you automatically lose" might just as well make it impressive looking to lose in style

I think I'm going to mostly do an Imperator, but swapping out the four cathedral tower tops for the Warmonger's flak cannons, and swap out the gatling cannon arm for the Warmonger missile rack arm.

Scale shot of some of my Imperator parts next to a Warhound. Parts are stuck together with friction, the parts only have basic supports ripped off, and A LOT of cleanup work needs to be done. Yes, I know the Imperator is a tad on the smaller side, but it also needs to be somewhat practical for storage.

An Imperator at 40K scale isn't going to be on the table, it's going to be the table!

Now if you think that's insane, head over to https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/688647.page to see Blackadder building a 40K scale Imperator... from scratch!

Update on the print marathon. The end is near! All parts are still held together with friction and prayer. Torso is pretty well cleaned up. I made a few alterations to the original designer's STL's. I added some do-dads here and there. The foot was a little short, so I added an "ankle" spacer. I shortened the tall rear tower on the torso a tad. The four battlecannon turrets are of my own design, as I disliked the too-tall and too-pointy originals, plus I think it fits with the central dome better.

Scout Marine Barry for scale. This will be about 38 inches (or just a little more) when assembled.

In case anyone is interested, at this point it is 9.8 Kilos without the arms.
