Thoughts?

I’m struggling to buy it right now. I’ve heard there’s mass glitches. How do you like it?

From what I've heard, it seems to run just fine on consoles? I know PC had a terrible launch with incredibly poor performance.

So far it’s amazing!

I'm on PC and four hours in I haven't encountered any performance issues. No idea if I'm with the lucky ones that have the right hardware configuration or the hotfix a week or so a go did the job.

Fun game so far. I like that they didn't meddle with the game mechanics of the first one for the most part.

Keybindings are a complete disaster, though. Being unable to rebind the arrow keys is an insult, to put it politely.

It uses the arrow keys? :wtf?

I'm always vaguely horrified at games where clearly no one in the room uses a keyboard or even consults usability or user access studies.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

The extra dumb thing is that the arrow keys are assigned to menu navigation. There is zero overlap between the menu (which also pauses the game) and any in game actions and therefore no harm in having the same keys bound to multiple actions.

But why even try to adhere to a quarter of a century of standards, right? Free key mapping is for losers.

I don't own it myself. But IIRC I saw mention that the issues on PCs are related to certain pieces of hardware, particularly certain video cards.

For a little while the top review on steam was "The loading screen is fantastic. 10/10. Will update when I reach the start menu."

Op here, yes SWJS is really good (on ps5). Very glad I made the (force) leap!

I wasn't that keen on the original - the main character didn't do anything for me and some of the bugs were awful - being knocked through the floor and falling into a nothing-verse and having to load a 30 minute-old save did it for me (he says after dying and reloading an Elden Ring boss fight for the 15th time!)

This has had such good reviews, I'll probably wait a few months for the bugs to be sorted and see if it goes onto discount.

Monkey boy isn't so bad most of the time. He gets a bit whiny about the Empire once in a while, but aside from that I find him to be a decent sidekick for BD-1.

I only bought the first game two or so years after its release so I never experienced any bugs in it. Might be time to give it another try if bugs were the main thing that kept you away.

Interestingly the second game seems to be in fairly good shape considering what people reported about it. I had one bug in thirteen hours that crashed the game, but nothing besides that. A few months and some discount seems like a good idea to me.

Really enjoying 'Survivor' so far. 'Fallen Order was great and this a good continuation. Only a few quibbles..

1. After the intro you end up in a shanty/frontier town with very minor npcs with side quests - it made me feel like I'd wandered into a game of Fallout.

2. I didn't become a laser sword wielding ninja-monk to faff around holding onto the legs of space bats as they slowly fall to the ground. fortunately it doesn't happen that often.

Hmm, I never even thought of Fallout/post-apocalypse when I saw the frontier town. I suppose I'm too used to the idea that Outer Rim colonies are oftentimes small scale and trashy. But yeah, now that you mention it, the thematic similarities are there.

I think the saloon is a cute addition to the game. The first game only had the planter on the Mantis. Nice enough, but not very engaging. I like the greater variety of what you can build up. So far anyway. It's not like I'm very far along yet. I especially like how the music is implemented.

Oh boy, yeah. The bats. It's kind of awkward to laugh and shake my head at the same time, is all I'm going to say. On the other hand, I'll add that it's nice to see Cal getting a break from being a murderhobo once in a while and getting along with fluffy things. It's more Jedi-like than farming them for XP.

I'm on PC and for me the game is mostly bug free. That being said, there's a big one (graphics bug at a guess) that crashes Windows. I had that twice during my twenty one hours in the game.

Aside from that the only thing I can think of is a bit of ambient sound getting chopped off very rarely if you move out or range, rather than just fading off as it should.

Edit: I should add a caveat to the crash issue. My graphics drivers were outdated at the time, so it may not be directly related to the game. I've updated them since. We'll see if the issue persists.

As a followup to my last post, my game now crashes at least once an hour. I don't seem to be the only one with that problem either. Suffice it to say that a game that saves on checkpoints is basically unplayable like that.

Time to wait for a patch, I guess.

Ah shoot, sorry to hear! Well, no harm in waiting for me, plenty of projects to work on in the meantime.

I have a question: Does the game find some contrived way to make you lose all the abilities you learned in the previous game making you relearn them all over again? I hate it when sequels do that.

Jedi Survivor partially resets things.

You keep all the acrobatic moves you learned in the first game. You still have Push, Pull and Slow. You keep single, dual and double lightsaber.

You lose your Force skills so you can earn XP and level them again. You also start out without visual customization options again so you can go after crates again, which is expanded with items you can use in shops to trade for collectibles. Life and Force meters are reset to a low value. Probably the same as at the start of Fallen Order, but that's just a guess based on the mechanics feeling the same. BD's stim packs are also reset to two or three so you can go look for stim crates again.

So you get some of that, but I'm not sure I'd call it a contrivance. It's just the way the game starts out. There's no explanation or even the merest mention of it in the game.

Eh, that's the state of the industry. Sometimes you get lucky. Other times you don't. I like the Jedi series for the atmosphere more than for the story or gameplay (though both are fine) so I'm hardly on the edge of my seat right now. I haven't really been able to make much time for the game anyway. I might even play Fallen Order again in the meantime. I meant to do that anyway to refresh my memory of the story, but never got around to it before Survivor's release.

Yeah it's always nice to replay the predecessor before jumping into the sequel, it lets you appreciate the QoL gameplay changes a lot more (which I hope there are some.)

I know for a fact that there's one at least. The developers figured out that if you jump on a climbable wall, your intention is to climb the wall and not fall to your death, so you don't have to confirm anymore that yes, you do actually want to climb the wall and not fall to your death, thank you very much. That bugged me in Fallen Order and I'm glad to see it rectified.

Gameplay seems pretty smooth to me overall, so who knows if there are other, little things that I missed.

I think I remember exactly what you're talking about, it was the jungle planet and often times you'd try to grab on after sliding only to bounce off it and fall to your death. Glad to hear that was fixed!

Final thoughts.

Played 85 hours. Finished campaign. 85% completed everything. 75% of achievements. Collected 95% of everything. (There’s like 200 seeds to collect). Maxed my Jedi out.

However, big bug they’re working on, 5 of the bounties are unattainable right now. So can’t finish that up yet. Have to wait for Boba Fett…

Replayability is super low. This is not Destiny or AC Valhalla…

& yes, it crashed several times & froze 3x in those 85 hours of playtime. Crashing took me back to start screen & I continued & it back tracked me to previous save not current one that crashed.

Sometimes the characters hair & beard would sometimes fly around like I was in a wind tunnel.
