On the Surface of the Sun aka Florida in the Summer.

So, you are watching a game (not playing in it), and you notice some shady playing from one of the players. The other guy is not being super attentive as he is distracted by a family member.

But shady player is performing the classic measure from the front and move the Falcon all the way to the back (so he gets the length of the tank in extra movement).

After the third time he did this, along with Some magical Striking Scorpions that ignored vertical distance when moving up the side of a ruin.

I played dumb and asked, "Is that an Eldar rule that let's you do that?"

Shady player became indignant that I should be "minding my own business." And Distracted player, says , "don't worry about it, everyone in the store knows he cheats."

Which didn't go over very well.

While I decided to go buy a random paint to escape the situation, I couldn't help but wonder two things.

1) Should I have just not said anything?

2) Why would you play a game against a known Cheater, and let him cheat?

That's actually kind of hilarious.

You did good. Distracted player is unconcerned and that's fine. Cheater can be mad.

One secret is that cheaters often aren't very good. A confident player will often beat them regardless and just might not want to spend the night policing them. They might just have more important things in their life and aren't concerned about it in general. Someone else noticing lets the cheater know they're not getting away with anything and has the distracted players back.

It's fine. I'm sure the distracted player got a laugh out of it.

It definitely depends.

I think you had a decent approach though. You hinted “hey, I know the rules, and that did not look right to me”, by asking if they had an Exception To The Rule. And we know some units do have interesting Exception To The Rule abilities unique to them, and for all you knew there, the Scorpions were being proxied for another unit.

What followed is just funny though!

LOL!!

Yeah, you're all good. Now if it was a complete stranger, I'd have some words, and let the situation dictate.

If it was a guy that's known, then it's probably the TFG of the group. You throw a few terms of endearment at him, and have a game.

Beer and Snacks goes a long way, too.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
