Hi All:

Does anyone think there is any tactical value in pulling off all the machine guns from my transports onto bases.  Do they all operate as gun teams or just the .50 Calibre?  If I do pull the guns off, do I add those bases to my platoons, or swap out rifleman.  I mean with 5 transports that would be five more stands of infantry.  Is this right?

From my understanding an existing infantry team can dismount the machine gun - it is not an extra team.  Only the .50 cals acts as a gun teams, the LMG act as regular US LMG team (move like infantry - can't move and shoot, 3+ save, 2 shots when pinned).

The only way to have these units return to their old self is to remount the half track and then dismount without the weapon.

I do not have experience with it, but I have heard that this is devastating in defense when the US basically starts all unmounted and dug in with half tracks in the rear.  An armored infantry platoon ends up with like 4-5 machine guns, and a 37mm gun, dug in.

Not many things are going to want to close in on that.

Yeah, thanks Jay, after re-reading that I agree whole heartedly.  I think that is it exactly.  Thanks.

Works well on offense as well. Disembark within 16" of the enemy and send your transports to the rear. Establish a firebase with the LMGs, Mortar and Anti-tank gun while the infantry teams and bazookas move up to assault. 5 LMGs + Mortar + Gun = 7 dice of shooting on 1st turn and 20 on the second. Pin the target with your fire base, then assault with your manouver element. I tend to not dismount the .50s but if you do you get 6 more dice in exchange for 2 fewer stands in the assault party.

Enjoy

Ohh that is a very cool move.  I'll have to try that.  Thanks.
