I was just wondering if anyone had any unofficial rules on playing 40K by yourself.  I can't convince my wife to play with me and sometimes I just can't go to the local store.  So, some solitaire 40K rules would be awesome.

I once played a historical mini game (civil war based) where all your squads had commanders. Each commander had a "personality" which varied from reserved to fiery. Any time you took an action (move forward, hold your position, shoot, charge, ect) you had to roll on a little chart to see if the commander agreed with your orders or if they did their own thing. Kind of an interesting element to the game (and psudo random if you didn't really know the system before hand) to set you up as a general giving orders to sub commander who really made the final decisions. So if you could figure out what system it was that I was playing and get those rules, you could set up scenerios where one side would more or less play itself. You could try it out and see what happens.

Hmm. That's interesting. So, did every personality type have it's own chart to roll against, or was there one chart and the different personality types dictated how they rolled?

Moore, Ok.

"maybe you could come to an even ground? "

that's a great point. i tried to get my wife into it years ago, by trying to get her interested in the

painting side of it. but still no success.

but it's also still "okay" for you 2 to have different hobbies, imho.

Dood, leave the wifey at home (or in the basement/upstairs) and find a local gaming club to play with. Trust me, you don't want to get in to fights with your wife over LOS vs. levels in vehicles or whether you can take a devilfish as non-dedicated transport. :p

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

I only vaguely remember the system since I only played it once, but it worked something like this. First you decide what you want your guys to do (move forward and shoot, stand and shoot, take cover, retreat, move forward towards hand to hand, ect). Anything that involves going towards the enemy is an "aggressive" move, a moderate move is lateral movement or standing still (assuming you don't have enemies right on top of you), and a defensive move is backing up or getting in cover. So when you decide you want your marines (lets say) to move forward and shoot, that an aggressive action. Now if your commander is has a ?fiery? personality, he may agree with your aggressive orders on a 4+ (2d6 were rolled as I remember) where as a reserved commander might only agree on a 8+ and a cowardly commander on a 10+. If he does disagree with you, you would roll on a separate chart where 2-5 might indicate a defensive move and 6-12 would be a moderate move. I can?t remember if you were suppose to decide all 3 possible moves before you start rolling or not but that?s sort of how it works. Different personalities are more or less likely to agree or disagree with they different styles of moves and are more or less likely to do they type of things they want to do.
