I have not.

As most of you know, GW stopped selling all those useful colors of spray and sells a "new" Chaos black primer and some sort of white only.

Turns out the Chaos Black is so bad they're recalling it.

So if you bought some (and by now you know how bad it is), hound your local retailer until he takes it back.

Good thing I use the cheap stuff from Walmart then.

Is it so bad becasue it cloggs models? I havent used that stuff forever. Flat Black Primer from Home Depot...$0.99 a can no issues. Dont believe their smaller particulate propaganda.

Hobby Lobby and a plethora of other stores of full line of primers and sprays in color. Good quality plus they are cheaper.

Just make sure to shake the bejeezus out of them and don't spray on a humid day

Agreed. I use either Krylon Ultra-flat black or Testor's flat black (mostly when I can't go outside and have to prime in the basement/garage)

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I have, but I have yet to have a problem with it. 4 cans later, after building a CoD table for the store I play at I haven't had an issue yet. Capt K

I blackprimed an entire Burmese army (am almost done painting it) and two legiones of Later Imperial Romans with it and had no problemos atall.  I actually prefer the GW black primer to the Krylon, although for white priming I use Krylon sandable white.

My black keeps getting clogged after a short use. Pull the nozzle and wipe and it works again. But its a pain in the rear.

I've run thru equal amounts of GW black primer and the auto parts store black primer. I've had a grand total of 2 defective cans of paint, both GW. So it does happen, thats why I only use the auto parts store black primer.

I have always sworn by GW black undercoat. I have tried others but not liked them. This new recipe is a lot more watery and changes the way you have to undercoat. Personally I think it is actually not that good. The FLGs I go to has had so many complaints about the new paint that they have stopped ordering the GW stuff and ordered Armory. Way to go to let the competition in.

I didn't understand why they changed it. Why would GW change something that a lot of people like in preference to competitors? (I think I now the an$wer though).

I have one can of old stuff left. I hope it is a can of everlasting paint.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

I did get a can of the new spray a little bit ago and it was like using their rough coat on everything. A whole batch of figures came out looking like I had dunked them in sand.

The others are right, go for Home Depot or Hobby Lobby instead. ten bucks for a spray that works like *donkey*is a bit too much, especially when you have to strip it right off.

I tried out the armoury primer at one point last month, and it dried "sandy." Maybe it was the humidity, but after I stripped the models I tried an old can of the GW stuff and it worked fine (next day, same weather/similiar temperatures). Maybe I just got a bad can?

The problem with Armory black is that it's not quite black. That's great for some applications (such as terrain) and not for others. That's why I buy both Armory and GW.

Too bad about the GW black. I hope they go back to the old stuff. I've tried a lot of primers and really prefer the GW stuff.

I've been satisfied with the GW spray...but I will surely look for cheaper alternatives, because i'm not such a high quality fanatic.

Anyway, does anyone know if there's a "Scorched Brown" spray on the market? It would be perfect for my skeletons.

Turns out the Chaos Black is so bad they're recalling it.

Do you have a link to a press release for this or is it just a rumour?

Seems like you'd want to confirm this before you started running to your store to send back your GW spray cans

I HIGHLY doubt there would be a press release.

Personally I use Wal-Mart to get primer.

In the auto parts section there is a great "Auto" black primer.

Last time I bought some it was 1.99 a can.(Thats why I bought the whole case)

It goes on very smooth and is also available just about everywhere.

Of course it is hard to find in the store, usually on the bottom shelf in the paint section!

Yes, I just bought a can a few weeks ago and no real problems. Was it the product or maybe just one batch?

The new cans have a blue lable similar to the roughcoat, and instead of saying "Black Primer", they say "Chaos Black". There was apparently some problem at the manufacturing side. They went to a new formula that seemed good from the samples that were sent, but the first batch shipped to retailers was really bad.

I was using several cans at my shop and noticed right away, tested it against the old formula, and shot off some emaila to GW. Enough other people experience similar things, GW tested the batch, quit shipping the new stuff, and is going to recall it. They are looking into fixing the new batch, or getting the old stuff back.

I got an email confirming this from GW yesterday. Note that this effects only the Chaos Black cans with the new blue label, distributed from the Memphis warehouse in the US. Cans of the older stuff, that says "Black Primer" are fine.

I have no problems with the chaos black. In fact in Canada it's been around a while. For the past couple years it has been skull white and chaos black primer as far as I can recall.

Yeah here in Canada it's been Chaos Black and Skull White for a while. We haven't had colours for ages. I've never had a problem with either black or white. I did have a problem with Purity Seal turning milky... ruined a tank and 10 death company.

I have nothing useful to add.

I take it this issue only affects north America?

In Britain we have always had Chaos Black and Skull white undercoat, since the dawn of time. I have always found GW undercoat to be brilliant stuff. The English product gives fantastic coverage, is tough, and makes a great surface for GW paints. While GW may have some flaws (such as their awful glues and modelling tools) I cant fault their paint. Its a brilliant range. I agree its expensive when compared to competitors, however in Britain at least where Krylon is imported and costs a fortune, I've found GW stuff to be far superior to the cheap hobby or car sprays here.

There was an issue with the purity seal a while ago, but thats been sorted now.

not a north american issue an AMERICAN issue. Canada is Skull white and chaos black too with no problems I know of. I wonder why the U.S. os just coming into line now with something that the others have been doing for a while?
