I'm giving West Wind's games some more thought and thought I'd point out some of the neat stuff that's out.

http://oldglory25s.com/store/index.php?cat_id=400

Road Kill is a bikers vs vampires vs nuns vs cops sort of thing.  I think.  Fun Car Wars type stuff.

Rednecks

& Zombie Hunters

Lucifer Wars is Heaven vs Hell, nifty demons and angels

Superfigs is Superhero gaming

The new figs are not up at Oldglory25s but are here:

Elasti-Ape.  Yes.

These guys are GREAT, so many uses for them and only $10 for 5!  Add a quick weapon and your cult is off!

Figs tend to be no more than $2-$3 for rank and file, $6 for characters, great prices.  Yeah I see Superfigs in my future.  Sgt Silverback and the Guerilla Gorillas.  Fear them.

It appears Elasti-Ape is a tip o' the hat to the old "Barrel of Monkeys" toy:

Having played Superfigs, I can definitely vouch for it.  It is a relatively fast game, you might need at most a dozen models (unless you go really heavy on the henchmen), and it's Superheros! How can you go wrong with Superheros?

As a side note, The company has just released Superfigs! 2nd Edition, which compiles the original rules and the two supplements into one book... I'm just waiting for Sentry Box to get it in so I can order it.

The models are also well done, suit the genre, and a few are even homages to certain heros already out there... (like a certain caped crusader).  One of my favorites is Dr. Atlas... 3 models, same character, but in small, medium and LARGE!

Thanks for the recommendation. I tried heroclix but never liked it that much, but I think a more open-ended game might work for me. Superfigs DOES let you make your own heroes right?

I'm thinking of a few teams:
General Whitewash (GW) and the United States Space Marine Corps
Sgt Silverback and his Guerilla Gorillas
The Guardians of the Light (angels)
The Ravishers of the Night (devils)
And some generic superteam to be announced.

What sort of terrain is good for a game of it?

I've been trying to get on to the old glory 25 site for a few days but they're having problems, the webmaster says they're working on it

Oh, yeah, it definitely allows you to create your own Superheros/Superteam! It also suggests points totals for a team depending on the "level" of heroics you want.  That way, you too can have teams like:

The Menagerie (super-villains): Barracuda, Great White, Leapfrog (super jump, anyone?), Man-Beast, Ratman (with apologies to Bill Willingham), and Tech-Ape

or

The Naturals (super-villains): Boulder, Dewfall, Timberline and Windrow

or

The Centurions (super heros): Action Man, Patriot, Moon Ghost, Ironhawk and Firefly

As for Terrain, use whatever you like... if I get around to it again, I bought the WorldWorks Urban Mayhem series from their website (excellent city pieces for heros and moderns). Or, in a bit of a City of Heroes twist, use some urban rubble and have the heros and villains duking it out over the remains of a beleaguered city!

Final word, some of the interesting powers include an Omni Pool (set a point value, and you can pick and choose powers each turn), Copy Power (like my villain, The Blank), Darkness, Elasticity, etc... you get the picture.  Let me know if you check it out and what you think of it.

Worldworks is that paper terrain, right?

So how much office ink did you use, and did you glue it
to cardstock or feed thick paper?

I took a llok at Worldworks last night. Their pirate theme paper terrain is just insanely cool.

Sorry, Malfred, was away yesterday and just got back today...

Yes, the WorldWorks terrain is the "paper" terrain.  I print it out on 110lb. cardstock (which you can buy in a big pack at Staples, etc.), using an HP deskjet 3650.  It turns out pretty decently if you follow their instructions (and the WorldWorks stuff comes with excellent instructions!).  As for ink usage, I can't really say as I haven't printed out a ton of it yet, but I think you can get a fair bit printed out per cartridge.

The forums at WorldWorks' site are excellent for looking at ideas, what to use to print, glues to use, etc.  I went there and had a good lurk around before deciding to buy, and I've been very happy with my decision.  In fact, I'm debating picking up their "Platform" package; can you say super cool Necromunda scenery?

That Superfigs! game sounds insanely cool, I'd love to create my Bat-Villains super-team for it, but before I waste more dinero I don't have, what's the core mechanic like?

The core Mechanics are based on a d6 "Goal Roll."  Basically, you roll however many dice your stat gives you (say 4), and for each 4+ you get a goal; these are then used to determine your success.  An unopposed Goal roll will usually need one success.  However, there may be times when you need two or more goals to succeed (for example, trying to leap between buildings).

Most (all?) of the combat in Superfigs is based on Opposed Goal rolls.  In close combat you roll your Agility vs. your opponent's Agility: if you score higher, you have hit your target.  Damage is then determined by a Strength vs. Strength roll.  If you have a Super Stat (say Agility), then you get extra successes on a roll of 6.  Super Agility (1) gives you two successes per 6 rolled, Super Agility (2) nets you 3 successes, and SA (3) gives 4 successes per 6 rolled... but they suggest reserving level 3 Super Stats to Cosmic/Godlike beings.

A character's actions revolve around how many Action Points they have.  Each action (moving, shooting, close combat attacks, etc.) cost a certain amount of AP per attack.  So, if you have enough AP, your blaster could fire off 3 shots per round, or move, shoot, and move behind cover.  You can spend more AP than normal to do special attacks as well (such as the "Soliloquy Attack" - you spend 5 AP for an attack that gives you an extra 2 dice to roll... but you must deliver a monologue before hand!)

Initiative is determined each round, based on Unopposed Agility Rolls; tally up the successes to get the order for the round.  Ties are broken with a series of tie-breakers (Super Agility level, plain Agility level, etc.)

Finally, there are levels of Super Team Build Points that they suggest for games/campaigns.  From these, you build up a team of heroes/villains, dividing up the points among the team.  We found that their BP caps of 85 or 90 points per character work pretty well.  And they also have scenarios and a simple campaign system for your Super Teams to grow and change as you play.

Hope this helps, Chaplain!

There's a quick start download here:

Looks pretty easy.  It'll be a while before I can test it but when I do I'll post reviews.
