Is there any story or piece of fiction out there that involves terminators using droppods to deploy and not by teleporting from orbit?

I'm looking for some fluff ammo against players who give their terminators droppods (all in good humor, of course).

I believe they do in the new Horus Heresy books in the assault against the super-arachnids. However, it may have been simply tac marines.

Teleporting technology is quite rare in the 41st millenium and I think the time it takes to power-up (and the energy usage invovled) rules out large scale teleporting of marines.

I do believe I have read in the past that the process of teleporting can do some physical damage to the teleportees and that only terminator armor is secure enough to risk this damage on a regular basis.

is it not to do with the fact that the tecknology in the termie suits is more advanced and therefore only they teleport??

I seem to remember in the fluff piece that was put out before the new Codex SM (Ultras drop podding on Tau), that the Terminators had drop podded in. I'll have to see if I can find it again.

Actually, the terminators always teleporting is moreso supposed to represent that they usually have personal teleportation devices (2nd edition), as well as the fact that the first teleporter slots of the battlebarge is usually open to them.
Power armour, or even normal humans can be teleported and have done so in the novels, however, teleporter technology is relatively rare, somewhat risky, and thus generally preserved for the units that truly need it.

Grey Knights in power armor will also teleport. They do have more access to rare tech though, as well as the whole purity thing.

A reason for terminators using pods would be turbulance in the warp making it too dangerous to teleport.

I don't think teleportation is all that rare in the 41st century, its really just warp travel. However, it does seem to be a SERIOUS drain on power supply, as per Lysander's description of his battleship, which is built for mass teleportation.

As for Tac marines, the old armageddon codex conveys a story of Helbrecht and some techmarines, and some Tac Marines who teleported onto an ork barge, set them up the bomb, and teleport out.

And if I remember correctly, I thought the original design for terminators was that they were shot onto planets and their armor was tough enough to withstand being shot at high velocity through a planets atmosphere. It seeems that it would at least be less dangerous to get onto a planet this way than to teleport, considering the ridiculous dangers involved.

Drop pods for terminators helps in the original design of the terminator armor itself, being able to be shot onto a planet avoiding the dangers of the warp. (again read Lysanders text, and you'll see why warping is so bad, IE finding yourself half in a rock).

Actually, it was developed from suits used for asteroid mining. The armor was so durable that it could stand up to micro-meteorite strikes, and that was translated into near-invulnerability against anti-personnel weaponry by the Imperium and Tech-Priests.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

It's rediculous how cool terminators are from a fluff vantage.

....And then there was 40k.

Ya, I'd have to say that if marines were as rough as they are in the fluff, they'd significantly have to rethink the playability of 40k as a game. I mean, a bolter is supposed to be one seriously tough gun (it only has 15 bullets per clip and yet, rips monsters to pieces, what does that say, all you need is one bullet).

Exactly my point, if the space marines really had that stuff, you'd only need 10 to finish at 2k pts game.

There is that 'movie' spacemarine list in the chapter UNapproved in WD 300. Makes them closer to the fluff 10 in 1500 points

Still, Terminators wouldn't use a drop pod, more manly to use their rather dangerous teleport
