They're ok, but far from Brian Nelson good.  I'm really mad that Brian wasn't the one to sculpt all the new orc and goblin models.

The Shaman on foot has no teeth......that I like. The Warbosses are simply alright, but I really don't care for the Gobbos. You don't think the Shaman and /or the Warboss are like the Space marine Commander. Plastic with a bunch of options.

I've seen the Reaper Exarch with both weapon options and both look like things you can buy in sex shops. A weapon should not look like this, not even a Emperor's Children weapon. -Symbio Joe

What the hell?

Is this what Seb Perbet is leaving for us orc lovers? Blah!  I had such faith in the man.  That warboss is no more interesting than a regular orc boy!  His face has  no detail, ho looks like a yoof.

The goblin warboss looks good, but the others (aside from the shaman's missing choppers, nice touch) are completely devoid of any interest. I don't see much point in swapping out older Nelson orcs for these lackluster pieces.

Get your orcs now while you can, before these things hit the shelves...

Well, I have to admit, aside from being multi-part and being able to do a mounted or (and?) dismounted version in the same kit, the orcs are a bit of a let down. The goblins (in general) are the best new additions. Shame really, I was looking at starting an O&G Warband this year.

Brian Nelson triumphs! That'll teach GW to pay someone else to try and mimic Nelson's style.

They all look good... as rank and file figures, but as characters, especially command characters? Methinks the idiocy of letting so many studio artists go and switching to freelancing is coming to the fore now. Kinda funny how Kirby is all "GW is about the miniatures" but the metal sculpts have been steadily declining in quality...

Well the Warboss (who's taking the most heat) is a multi-part plastic kit. Also note that the mounted Shaman is an exisiting model that was released last year for the Storm of Chaos campaign and can be seen HERE.

Ah, thanks Ghaz, I wasn't aware the Warboss was plastic, in which case it's not so bad. In regards to the decline in metal sculpts, I'd say it's been ongoing for a few years. LoTR is an exception, though, as their sculpts have almost universally be gorgeous. There are still the occasional metal beauts that come out for 40k/WHFB, but overall, those lines metal figs they aren't the premier figures they used to be or are talked up as. This is a shame since metal casting allows for such finer detail.

They are all truly disgusting. What have they got Nelson doing these days if not orcs?

I don't mind the orc who's missing an eye so much but not as a general, perhaps a unit champion.

Yesterday I got to get a good look at the plastic sprues for the new basic set. The spider riders are excellent plastics, and most of the stuff in there is pretty good for the gobbos. Dwarves were... ok. The terrain was good as well.

I agree with Kamarathin that the gobbos are much better than the new orcs.

Ok, are they really leader figures? lets go down the list.

Screaming faces? Check.... oh wait, missed one.
Raised arms? Check.... and look, some have x2 arms in the air! They must be x2 bosses!
Look a bored kid taking his school pictures? Check.... even the boar's and wolves look bored.
Inspiring presence that will stand out on the field of battle? Nah. 75% is a passing grade, no need to go crazy.

Start an Orc/Gobbo army? I'll pass.

At least plastic allows for different heads on the warboss. Perhaps a head from previous ork figures......sculpted by say.......hmmmmm.....I don't know..........

This is why you always let Jes or Brian do the plastics. Not impressed on that sprue at all and I'm sure it will retail at some ridiculous price to boot. Crap. At least the gobbos in the BfSP box are good looking!

I knew that the warboss was plastic, and as was mentioned, that is no excuse. Look at the Kroot plastics, look at the Genestealers. They are all excellent sculpts with good amounts of smalll detail. Even the Ork Boy plastics look better than this, and they are years old now! I like that there is so much abilty to customize him, but when all the pieces are only sculpted so-so, what does it matter?

I had heard that Brian Nelson is not currently sculpting anything for LOTR. I don't know what he is doing now though. I'm hoping it's new 40k Ork plastics, as they are rumored to be getting new vehicles of all types next year, and that is surely taking some time.

Thats not to say that plastic is a bad medium or worse than metal. However when a sprue is not done nicely (I agree with the earlier point regarding brian and Jes) then they look awful.

Some recent GW platics have been shabby though, for example LOTR wood elves.

However the Tau, Kroot, Eldar, and Space marine plastics are amazing. Thats whats annoys me so much. Done well plastic is a brilliant medium (especially with the new high def plastic moulds). These orcs sadly are naff.

They aren't terrible and have conversion possiblities, however they are a disapointment.

The whole thing reminds me of painting by numbers. New army book Check, New accesorry sprue for regiment check, new bog standard hero check.

When I first saw these sneak peeks and sprues the first thing that sprung to mind was "dumbing down". At least the piggy isn't as stupid looking as the stag/ horse/ whatever thingy that the WE is sat on.

And to anyone who says plastic is a bad medium - Aberattion Prime anyone?

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

The best part is the facemask for the orc warboss. They should have shown that. Check my pics from Chicago for the good pic:
