Subject: Unit choice / drop pod question

Ok,
This is probably a dumb question but here it is anyway.
Can you stick a unit of Assault Marines in a drop pod if you first remove their Jump Packs?
Removing the jump packs just makes them space marines.
In the Drop Pod Assault section of the SM codex it pretty much states that you can't but it also directs you to the Transport Section where the Drop Pod itself says that you can.
The reason I ask is that I am pretty sure that GW never thought anyone would ever want to remove the jump packs so it wasn't addressed.
Thoughts?

Check the rules for Drop Pod Assault on page 21 of the codex. I don't see where it list Assault squads, do you?

I'm with you but it does say 'space marines' if I remember right. Also - please reference my original post where I also confirmed what you said. In the other sections of the book - specifcally the drop pod rules and the assault marine rules where it breaks down.

And once again, do you see 'Assault squad' listed on page 21 as being able to purchase a Drop Pod? No. Therefore they do NOT have a transport option. It doesn't matter if they take off their jump packs or anything else. They still do not have a transport option.

Drop pods are not listed in the transport section of any unit if I remember correctly. Does it specifcally mention Tactical Squads in the drop pod section or does it just say Space Marines?
I don't have the book here in front of me.

The short answer is no, you can't do it. It specifically lists what units can take pods, and assault marines are not one of them.
