Holy frikkin crap...  the first one was bad, the second one was, well lets just say there was a slight improvment

And if the deathjester is an indication of what the harlies are going to look like, well there will be a squad in every eldar army.

nice jester. Autarch looks like its one kit with many parts, heads, backpack, weapons.

Hmmm, the second Autarch variant isn't so bad. Way more dynamic than that first pose. Is it plastic? I think it's metal, in which case it it looks like that is a second body variant based on the original sculpt (notice the difference in details between the two).

The Death Jester: Now *that* is an awesome fig.

The Autarch is all metal, and the two we've been shown so far are not the same kit. The winged guy is rumoured to be a special edition model from the boxed army, and if you look closely his body has different features then the second (look at the loin cloth and the jewel around his thigh). Rumours DO state, however, that the Autarch released in blister back (or maybe mini-boxed set so they can charge you way too much?) will have many different weapons options included. It's clear from the newest version shown that his right arm is seperate, the backpack is clearly removable and the head and left arm both look to be very likely seperate parts. I'd wager you'll get multiple head and arms (for both sides) but I'd guess the normal release doesn't come with the wings (since they're a big part to include and it semi-forces people to buy bitz or the boxed army to get them).

Oh- I should mention- I wouldn't be too surprised if GW fails to include many head options since most of the exarch resins we've seen show that they've got seperate heads (it's only the fire dragon that I'm not 100% sure whether they have a seperate head, although it could just be that the angle doesn't show the shadow where the connection is, the Banshee exarch clearly doesn't have a seperate head).

EDIT:  Going back and looking at the bare metal version of the  Scorpion Exarch I'm suspicious that his head is not seperate based on the mal-formed metal in the neck recess (which tends to indicate a recessed area in the mold).

The Autarch is realy nice looking, for me 100% better than the winged one. And the Death Jester...well...i hope the Dark Reaper will look something like that and not like the exarch already seen...then I'm sold.

That Deathjester completely rocks. Seeing that made my day.

I like the helmet on the second Autarch, but the mini as a whole is unimpressive. So far, if I decide to do eldar, I'm converting my own autarch, because neither of the official ones are cool enough to lead an army. Have we seen the limited edition one yet? I hope it's not one of these two, not that I want to buy an army box.

On second look, the only thing I don't like about the jester is that his shuriken cannon is so cool, it'll be hard to convert a bright lance for him that is equal in coolness. And that makes me a little sad. Because he's the only guy who can take advantage of bright lances being assault weapons, I have to give him one.

Wow

Okay, best things last.

The Autarch is very nice, kinda crappy Color combination in my opinion though. But it looks really great, the helmet rocks (I'd prefer one that looks a bit more like a scorpion though, I will probably convert mine too look more insectoid). Very good model though.

The Death Jester.

I can't find the words. It's one of the best miniatures from Games Workshop I have ever seen.

the DJ can't take a bright lance

That Death Jester is brilliant! I would jump on the Eldar bandwagon (after being away since 2nd edition) simply so I could field that one, single model. Amazing (and about time if I may say so!!!!!)!

Totally agree on the DJ comments.

If they did the harlequins to that standard it would sell like crazy.

Every so often GW releases a model out of the blue that rocks beyond belief and captures everything great about a race's/ unit's background. This is one of theose few models.

I can only hope the rest of them are as good.

I agree with everyone on that Death Jester, so so so bad arse! The old death jesters are rockin too, and in the older rules they could take a bright lance, and with them it was assault 1!! hoot, they could move through cover as open terrain and fire that bright lance assault one, it was rediculous....to bad the rest of the army was nearly useless. it seems doubtful that they will be that powerful in this rendition, although i do hope they keep the option for shrieker amunition.

The auturach is cool, but i agree with the crawling chaos, i will convert my own auturach unless they come out with a multi-part plastic kit, similar to the SM captain.

ARGH, and to think i sold my old Harly army, i regret that so much.

Why?
Why do I like all these ELdar a lo1
Why do I not have unlimited time and money (and ammo

I like them both a lot. This Autarch is cooler but I like the way you can see all wargear on both of them (Swooping Hawks wings, Banshee mask, MAndiblaster, Warp Spider warp jump generator)

Ach! How can you say that, he doesn't resent his middle class parents for not understanding him!! He doesn't make out with the occasional fellow emo guy for attention! He kick butt and takes names and looks good doing it.

Besides, if he was emo he would have to have on tighter pants than that, and he wouldnt be able to see very well because he would have his hair combed over one eye....and his lip ring would make it too hard to hear him over the comm links. I mean that is if he would even come to the battle, given that he wasn't too busy writing poems about how lame the universe was.

If you go back and look at that thread again there are more photo's added. There are more variants of the Autarch, a bunch of Farseer variants, Wraithlord photo's, and a number of different weapons on the Exarches for the Striking Scorps, the Fire Dragons and if you look carefully you can see one of the new Dark Reapers.

Those photo's that were added we sereptitiously taken from GD Germany, which is why they have no flash. The guy who took them wasn't supposed to be taking photos so did some stealth shots for us all.

Warseer appears to be down at the moment, but I had a hunch and sure enough, the pics were on 40kOnline.

The Autarch painted up in Saim Hann colors is definitely the best of the bunch, I'd say. Good posing, and nice and clean. The Farseer with the spear behind his back is really cool too.

Also, my prayers have been answered. They didn't give the other Reapers the same cone helmet as the Exarch. I always preferred the look of the current Exarch, combining the skull helment with the targetting vanes and ponytail thing.

The weapon on the pointing Fire Dragon Exarch appears to be new, and it sorta reminds me of the flamers on the current Wraithlord's hands. Might it be the rumored Dragon's Breath weapon?

The Wraithlord sprue is also a good sign. There looks to be a lot of room for posability.

The new eldar line just keeps getting better and better. The only dud in my eyes, the dark reaper exarch (if only for sheer over the top lameness), is still a well sculpted model. The variants on the exarchs, the unity in quality and appearance, and the appeal to old themes makes the army look like a real gem.

What I do find terribly depressing is comparing what we've seen of the new orc and goblins to what we've seen of the eldar. Orcs are getting:
-Non-multipose n. goblins.
-Non-multipose spider riders (the boxed set ones seem, other than the champion, to be the same as those in the battle for skull pass).
-New plastic characters with disproportioned weapons and a very large box price.
-Plastic fanatics which seem to be hit-or-miss with the forum viewing hobbiests. (I prefer the old ones, partially because the new plastic chains scream "break me")
-A rumour of plastic boarboys.
-A handful of metal goblin characters and 2 fugly orc shamans.
-New special character figs.

All in all, not very impressive when compared to the new eldar:
-Plastic wraithlord.
-Plastic warwalkers.
-All but 2 aspects being redone with a seemingly consistent delivery on quality control
-New character models, both in the autarch and farseer.
-New special characters (though it remains to be seen what will happen with the phoenix lords)
-The rumour of new harlequins, which with the appearance of the above death jester, promises to be both true and awesome!

Maybe I'm jumping the gun a bit, but as of right now, as a WFB player, I'm disappointed.

Is it me, or amongst that picture of the new boxed sets, is there the Avatar boxed set?
(Or is it just a Howling Banchee exarch?)

My strategy is this: I usually don't bring it up in random conversation with non-gamers, unless for some reason it's very pertinent to the situation (which means never).

I agree Jojo! Although there is a multipart NG AND Spiderrider box being released, neither are done by Brian Nelson, and I can't see the logic in replacing a Nelson kit with an inferior kit, cool options or not. I'll be buying one new kit to add to my Nelson goblins just for variety, but I'll keep 95% of my models as Nelson sculpts as usuall

Amongst the Stars, In the Night

I think what has me scratching my head the most is that the one-piece gobbos from BfSP are looking better than the multi-poses, which is crap. I also don't see the wisdom in replacing superior plastics with obviously inferior ones given the expense of cutting the metal dies used in injection molds. The new Orks & Gobbos are looking more and more like the SM scout plastics, which are ball rendingly terrible and doubly so when compared to the excellent metals they replaced.

As far as the new Eldar, I'm still on the fence. I do like that they are (finally) getting a new Wraithlord, in plastic no less, but from what I can see of the sprue, the details look soft and they missed (yet again) a fine opportunity to really pack the details in. The Dark Reaper exarch is quite silly with that massive gun. I'm not hot on the Fire Dragon exarch either, but at least his fire pike can be cut down and a second handle added so it looks at least remotely plausible. I really can't stand the original Autarch's pose, it's GW's same hackneyed and overused pose: legs planted out, arms at side, bent up at elbows, head staring straight ahead. Ugh. Though, as I mentioned before, the second Autarch is much, much better.
