Anyone try the 12pt + ethereal honor guard? I figure it isn't really that bad a deal seeing as you also get the re-rolls, may be the only way it is worth taking an ethereal.

Drano doesn't exactly scream "toy" to me.

What is the point of paying 2pts per model for +1 BS?

I rather take 12 normal FWs than 10 bs4 FWs.

I have tried the Honor guard many times and I can say that they are worth the 2 points extra that you pay for them. The other benifit to my army is that I primariy use Markerlights extensively in my army thus giving most of my units BS5 when ever I get the chance. If you are going Battle suit heavy I would suggest against the Honor guard if you are using fire warriors and Sniper Drones as the base of your list then take the honor guard.

Lost, but i'll soon find myself!

i agree and i can tell you that rolling a 3+ to hit with a 3+ to wound weapon is worth 2 exta point a model. I'd do it with everyone if i had the chance. Could you imagine what they'd do to a squad of Guardsmen? I'll tell you.

12 shots 8 hit and about 7-6 wound with no armor saves. That can be pretty devastating as you've just turned it into a non-scoring unit that will take Leadership 5 or 4 for the rest of the game (all in one turn of shooting and standing outside of their range).

Tyranids are the same except they will probably keep moving forward (into rapid fire range).

WIth 12 shots you'd kill about 5 Orks or so.

As for the Fearless bonus, I'll tell you that it is worth it to have the backline of troops invincible as long as one fearless squad is standing in front of it. It also lets you hold aganst terminators who will be inflicting many casualties as they move.

To Jum P Axe: "I'd do it with everyone if i had the chance." not to be the rude one here but that is going to pop up in someones sig...no offence buddy

On Topic: I have tried the Honor Gaurd...

-A friend and I played a game where we had to inform one another what the basis of our army was going to be (Him-Mobilized Orkz / Myself-Foot Tau).  We then created armies specificaly to fight the other.  I had two PF Teams and FWs as the base of my army, with the manditory crisis and an Aun+HG...The Aun squad was fired apon to the point of overlooking a target not in cover (a one time mistake), while my PFs MLs made my other squads just as combat effective.

-Specific examples of usefulness...The LD 10 team was good at passing target prio tests to hit important squads.  Non-scoring FW squads are not the best thing to concern yourself with but if they refuse to fall back they ARE a threat and can not be ignored, the Auns ablative FW wounds help keep him center-board or close enough (not cowering in cover unseen by the opfor and friendlies alike).

my nickle and ninety-eight cents, Good gaming to you

The British Army, so could be any old sh*t hole in the world.

I use an honour gaurd of ten along with another 40 fire warriors.

The fifty point ethereal really then equates to 1 point each for a morale re-roll.

The ten guys at BS 4 are definately worth the two points, and have performed well for me in the six times they have appeared.

I don't intend to ever use the fearless thing, they are so crap in combat and with my morale rolls I'd probably lose the army.

I find the guard to be valuable, not just for shooting purposes, but to keep the Ethereal from being sniped by sneaky infiltration or wandering ordnance/barrage fire. Bullet-catchers with good battle effectiveness for the win.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
