They do great in pods. Rhino rush was new in 3rd ed, and you bought a bunch of Rhinos to use the best assault delivery system. In 4th it's changed to pods, so you can still buy and employ the best assault delivery system.

Have you even read the pod rules? As it stands they’re awesome. Certainly the best and most reliable army-wide assault delivery system in the game. If you could assault the turn you landed they’d be utterly broken.

You can still hurt things the turn you land. Special weapons and bolters can do significant damage, and True Grit really comes into its own. 15-20 Bolt shots + special on the turn you land, plus 2 attacks per model in assault? My Dark Angels have some serious wolf-envy when it comes to drop podding.

I?m not sure if pods are better than Rhinos were- Rhinos definitely allowed a lot more mobility later in the game, and their ability to hold objectives in 3rd was awesome.
RE: How Do Space wolves play in 4th?

Grey Hunters are one of the scariest choices to put in a drop pod in any army. With multiple power weapons/fists, two plasma pistols, and a special weapon in the squad. They throw a large volume of short range firepower, and can punish any squad that assaults them. Add a Wolf Guard squad leader for another power weapon/fist and or special weapon(one shot)/plasma pistol if points allow for even more fun.

Blood Claws are marginally worse in this edition. They lack any usefull amount of decent firepower on delivery. On the other hand they are still usefull assault troops for cheap. Not as nice as what Space Marines can do, but not horrible by any definition. I prefer to bike deliver mine rather than Drop Pod but that is a preferance and see people play both ways.

Wolf Guard Retinues are much more customisable than Space Marine retinues. They tend to be more expensive for exactly that reason. However should you feel the need they can also get that third assault cannon (with 7 or more members in the retinue) that Space Marines just cannot do.

The one area that just sucks for Space Wolves is the requirement to buy more, less usefull, characters. They are required one HQ for every 750 points. Generally one is the SW Venerable Dread. He's a good buy and can force a reroll for who goes first, expensive but worth it. The Space Wolf Librarian (Rune Priest) is straight up not as good as either choice for Space Marines. His Psycic power is decent, but he comes with no wargear, and no other choices for psycic powers. The SW equivilent of an Aegis Hood requires taking a one hand ccw also. The Wolf Lord, Wolf Guard Battle Leader and Wolf Priest are just close combat characters in an army that doesn't need more close combat characters. I should mention that the Wolf Priest can buy the SW equivilent of apothacary gear, it has much worse rules however.

Overall a good drop pod force. Just watch out for the point sink characters. I'd still rate them a tad lower than a well done SM drop pod army. But if you are looking to add the components SW have anyway then it may save you points. I'm not a big fan of counts as xxx because you want to save points, without taking the fluff. But its your game too you have fun with it.

Rhino rush was not brken, they are marines surley they can charge out of a rhino after its moved, they are supposed to be the emperors finest. why is it when something is realy good people start saying its broken. Lets not get into the whole broken/balanced issue.

I played with against it for five years (Eldar) and with it for two (Chaos). It was really good, bordering on broken. When every list you designed had to be built with the expectation of countering the Rhino Rush, you knew that one tactic was perhaps a BIT too prevalent. Sure the good players learned to defend against it, but it was still very strong against them and would completely smoke any new player who didn't see it coming. I used and enjoyed it too, but the game is better off without it.

St least without it being fully as good anyd reliable as it was in 3rd. I would actually have been very happy with the "no assaulting after disembarking from a closed-top transport if it moved this turn" rule as the only change to transports, as opposed to their other 4th ed vulnerabilities. That would have slowed things down a little but not torn down the Rhino quite so far. I still like using them with my Dark Angels, though I still haven't put in the time and effort to adapt my Slaaneshi marines.

they could have lkept rhino rush as they have made it more dangerous to use rhinos and other vehicles due to the extra damage passengers take and the fact any pen hit makes them disembark etc.

Either route could have brought it into balance- either make them wait the turn before assaulting, or add the extra vulnerability to the transports (I prefer the former). Both may have been overdoing it a little, as you see sadly few Rhinos nowadays.
