Need help from a sculpter

I'm wanting to scult myself some better looking "duelists" for my 6th edition swordsmen, and I've settled on giving them longer, more slender swords like a proto-rapier and a buckler. However, I'm unsure how to go about sculpting it as I'm rather poor at sculpting. I figure I can take a 6th edition sword hilt, and pinvice drill a small hole into it, into which I can insert the blade. The blade replacement will be GS over a thin piece of wire from a paperclip, with a bit of the wire poking out the end to be glued into the hole on the swordhilt.

As for the buckler I considered using a bretonnian warhat from the pesant sprue, but it's not quite "there" in terms of looks. I'm at a loss how to not make this look like crap.

For the sword blade I recommend using a piece of copper wire, hammered flat and filed into shape. You can then add details with GS or other bits of wire. I used this technique to make the autarch's power sword as seen here.

Either the Free Company sprue or one of the other sprues that came with Mordheim had a Buckler on it, IIRC. Don't quote me on it, though

Sheet styrene, cut and shaped, would also work but it would require pinning to the model. I think Arstahd's suggestion is the most practical.
