to paint or not to paint ?

Ok so here is the deal.

This guy was a commision piece that was never to be (the guy got cold feet in the end !!)

He was meant to be a representation of a pre Heresy Magnus the Red, based on an image in one of the Horus Heresy Art books (the 1st one I think)

Now, I want to get rid of this model (I have no desire to have a Per- Heresy Thousand Sons army)
so shall I paint him or not ?

Cheers

I was unable to link to the model. But thats not important. If you plan to put it on ebay most certainly paint it. Otherwise you will make nothing off the model. If it is a well done piece and well painted you can make some good money.

I would post it unpainted first as most people will want to strip and repaint unless you did it like a GD winner.

Also what is the spear tip bit?

Brave Rifles

RE: to paint or not to paint ?

The question as to whether you should paint him or not depends on how good your painting skills are. If you are already able to command reasonable (i.e. NOT A LOSS) rates on eBay, then you should paint him as it will certainly enhance his value. Furthermore, he is supposed to represent a "historcal" character and hence there will be less problems of his colour scheme not fitting in with people's armies.

However, if you paint like a monkey on crack, sell him unpainted. I get the feeling some semi-painted figures go for less than unpainted figures because people just can't be bothered to strip and repaint the mini.

And whatever you decide to do, TAKE BETTER PHOTOS! I can barely see the miniature in the image you linked to. I'm positive that showing a pretty picture will almost certainly drive the price up.
