Inquisitorial Allies Composition

A friend did something that just feels wrong to me. Using Inquisitorial allies you are allowed 0-1 elite and 0-1 hq allies. To add an assassin you need an inquisitor. I have in the past used use an inquisitor lord as an hq and an assassin as an elite. Being that you can add both Daemonhunter and Witchhunter allies in a single army, he took a Daemonhunter elite inquisitor and a Witchhunter elite assassin and pointed out in both codices it states to take an assassin, you need an inquisitor. While not specific in the wording, it seems that a Witchhunter assassin would need a Witchhunter inquisitor.

I could not find any text to support my claim and we let him play with it as created.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?

RE: Inquisitorial Allies Composition

They don't specify Witch Hunter or Demonhunter, they just say Inquisitor and Assassin. Since both codexes have Inquisitor and Assassin entries, it doesn't matter where each one comes from. That's what the rule does say. What it DOESN'T say is that the assassin must come from the same allied army as the inquisitor. That restriction is never placed.

Now argue until your face is blue, Second Lieutenant Hobbs.

By your logic, Hobbs, you would have to use generic dice. Brand name Chessex dice are right out the window because the rules don't say that you can use them.

RE: Inquisitorial Allies Composition

This thread has covered the ground. The rules do not specify, though the intent is probably to restrict allied assassins to armies which also include an Inquisitor Lord, thus removing the potential abuse by functionally doubling the price. Just taking a 20pt Elite Inquisitor from the other codex is likely to be seen as abusive by opponents, as it was by the Adepticon committee, who FAQed it.

Thread locked.
