Doom Diver Question...

I have been playing alot of OG lately and this kind of came up and I was wondering what other groups think fo this rule.

This is the scenario: I target a unit of dwarfs and guess 24 inches. I guess right but I scatter 10 inches toward a warmachine. I am an inch away from the warmachine. Can I TARGET the warmachine now with my d3 realignment and put the shot into the warmachine? My group generally agrees that you cannot since it is not my intended target, only the dwarf unit I shot at can be realigned into.... What do you all think??? -

Of course you can target the war machine. The rules are very clear.

Show this to your group- O&G army book, Doom Diver Rules, p. 27: " ...the player is allowed to move the impact position... this many inches in any direction."

In any direction. Not 'towards the original target point', not 'towards the target unit'. You can shift D3 inches in any direction you want, including towards a jucier target.

Thats what I was thinking, but I am biased They were focusing on the "... are able to direct themselves onto their target to some extent" They argue that target refers to whatever I was originally shooting at. I appreciate your other arguments fellblade.

We were also debating if I got a realignment if I hit and not scatter. I am sure I do. but the rules say "after scatter". This cool little machine sure does cause alot of problems on many levels

Did you roll the scatter dice? Then it is 'after scatter', regardless of what the scatter dice shows. Go ahead and take the D3 inches if you want them.

Keep in mind, the wording of the rule says 'by this many inches', not 'by up to this many inches', so if you want 1 inch but roll 3, you have to move the entire 3.
