The return of HeroHammer?

The last few codexes have seen a return of certain characters to their former glory. Mephiston and Abaddon to name a couple.

The whole uber powerful characters of 1st and 2nd edition are best left in the past. Back then is was more a game of a few super characters surrounded by harmless followers.

If I wanted to play HeroHammer I would play D&D. I'd rather play a strategy wargame.

Well the only thing I mind about the super powerful characters is when they become common additions to a list, like Old one eye, and the Emperors Champion.
Man, I can't decide which one to vote for. Can you guys help me out?

Ok joking aside, I really pine for options on my standard characters. They are what really help me define their role on the battlefield and in my army. Options are what make my character different from other people's characters. Options are important. The loss of them and the increased power of "special characters" just takes the flavor out of the game. Sure it?s cool to see Eldrad show up in big games to lead his Craft World to victory. It just sucks to see him on both sides of a battle that's only 1000 points. That sort of thing makes me want to cry.

Anyone remember the game "Chaos Gate". It looked like it was going to be one of the coolest video games ever about 40k. However the fact that the only character options you had were what powers your librarian got and weather you gave your only master crafted bolt pistol to your librarian or your tech marine really felt like a lame cop out. Had there been more real options for your characters, the game would have been truly great rather than only mediocre. Let?s not see real 40k go the same route.

I voted "NO" just for the record. Everyone fighting with Mephiston vs. Mephiston action tends to get redundent. Hero hammer should stay dead. If you want to fight with superheros all over the place just play Warmachine. Bringing Baneblades and such sounds ubber ridiculous especially on 6x4 tables. Lets see my Baneblade template covers half your side of the table who's under it. I thought superheavies and massive tanks was for a little game called epic. GW seems to be trying any new idea to generate some kind of sales gain but I am thinking armegeddon/apocolypse or whatever is a bad concept.
