FW DKOK seige army list

I'm putting my Death Korp Army together and thought I'd try to follow the Seige Army list.

However there are some issues that keep popping up with it. In particular rules that contradict actual models...

I don't have my guard codex on me and can't remember so maybe someone can help. But Platoon Command Squads in the normal Guard Codex get 2 special weapons right? FW released the models as two special weapons (plasma and Melta) but in the army list you only have the option of taking Melta OR Plasma OR grenade launcher OR flamer... So they've made the second weapon redundant.

Also the same issue arises with HQ command squads (sadly FW only give you two las gunners... hardly ideal). Can HQ squads take 2 special weapons?

Even if you make one trooper a vet (watchmaster) you still cant give them special weapons as they aren't in the wargear list. The best you can do is a plasma pistol.

Another issue is Centaurs... The entry states 5 men only, however the commissar entry states that a Commissar can ride in the centaur with the Command Squad. Since HQ and platoon command are 5 men compulsory (1 officer 4 attendant staff) then this means the command squad will always HAVE to be 6 men (as you must attach a commissar to the squad).

Also Grenadier sargeants are listed as having Hell guns with no option for Hell pistol and Close combat weapon. The model however has hell pistol and chainsword. Since you cannot buy a hell pistol or even a laspistol as wargear (only bolt pistol is on the list) then you have no choice to assume that this is an errata to be fixed in a FAQ.

These are just a few of the mistakes or problems that I'm finding with this 88th Army list at the moment. Generally I like it, but little things like this are really annoying (such as no Vox models for regular squads but vox casters being an option... mail order a whole cadian sprue just for a vox pack... no thanks GW).

Don't command squads get 0-4 special weapons? The OR in there might be because every trooper but the JO can take one ...

For the rest of this - especially the hellpistol bit - the siege list is hardly "official," right? So I'd just tell your opponent the issues and how you've fixed them as reasonably and fairly as you can. They have problems with that, then they likely wouldn't be the type of person that would let you use a FW list in the first place!

- Salvage

FW lists are quite official.

I'd love to be able to order a 10 man sqd with my choice of heavy and special weapons. The only thing holding me back from scooping up more DKOK infantry is the fact that I can't stand "left overs". I'll stick with DKOK as Arty attachments instead of a stand alone force.

As in "not GW or most tournaments" official, right?

Nope, more like by what's written in the books themselves. I'd quote it for ya, but my FW IA's are packed to move.If you've never looked through one, I can understand why you wouldn't be familiar with it.

I was able to locate my 1st introduction to FW models, the GW IA I bought in my FLGS years ago.

JJ did a nice Intro, talking about how cool tanks were and what not and how they always wanted vehicles and stuff, it wasn't feasible during the RT days. He talks about what a great job Warwick and Tony, that being Tony Cottrell, who's been at GW as long as JJ, did on the models, but there were no rules. 1st step to fix this was the CJ, "but these were unofficial and could only be used with opponent's consent. What was needed were some OFFICIAL RULES"... "this being the case, all that was needed was someone to do all of the donkey work for coming up with the specific rules for each of the vehicles... and that is where good old Warwick came in".

PG 4 states "As noted in the introduction, all of the vehicles in this book can be used in games of 40k as part of an IG army, even if they are not included in Codex:IG."

they're mostly on the weak side with big, cool, expensive ($$$ and points) toys ...

So is GW's online store.

Armored Battle Group isn't very weak. Vet skills to shoot a battlecanon twice in a turn is nothing to turn your nose up at. Granted, that's about the only power list they've made. The rest are hamstrung by the restrictions they lay on the lists...bad doctrines and what not.

Edit to add to Topic:

The siege list is focused more on the big guns than the command squads. They limited specials to make up for the extra (1-4 vs. 1-3) mortars/ Thudd guns in each elite battery.
Though, I do prefer 1-3 weapons and plenty of dropping PHQ special weapons.
