RE: Which fiction?

Eisenhorn is probably the best series out there, and also the best placee to start. Get the Omnibus that collects all three books and two short stories.

In general, IMHO, any book by Dan Abnett is worth reading, if you want a laugh, the Ciaphas Cain books by Sandy Mitchell are a pretty good read as well. All other books, read at your own risk...

I actually am a big fan of the Horus Heresy series so far. They have been pretty refreshing, less of the "grim darkness and skulls" and more hope and real heroes.

Ozymandias, King of Kings

RE: Which fiction?

I echo the Einhorn recommendations, good stuff.

I also recommend the short story collection Deathwing. It was written back during the RT days and has some different stuff than the current crop. One problem is that the 00s reprint edited out all Squat references, so Squat Engineer Grimm, becomes tech priest Grill in one story.

Other than that, good stuff.

Seriously? They editted out the Squats?
Man. Sometimes GW are freakin' wierdos.

I'd reccomend the first Gaunts Ghosts novel, First and Only, and the first Horus Heresy book. Deathwing is pretty good too.
The old 2nd ed codex imperialus, rulebook and wargear book had some cool fiction in them too.

I thought about picking up the Gotrek and Felix Omnibus (Omnibus' are the only way to read BL books, they are a major savings and the books are such fast reads that you need 3 of them).
