Optimal skaven blocks

Hey guys,
Noob question regarding Skaven, what is the optimal size for clanrat blocks in a 2250 army. I am primarily concerned with the size of the main clanrat block. I figure that is where I need to put my grey seer and I want it to be the strongest block I can get.

Thanks in advance,

Darrian

Optimal skaven blocks

Most scavent troop blocks will be 25 men. 3 ranks and 6 casualties before you lose a rank bonus.

For the blocks holding the general I usually go to 30 men. More than that is really overkill and the extra 5 will gain you almost nothing (unless you are facking a similar block of 30 in your oponent's crappy troops)

Slaves are best at 20 or 25. more is useless
rat packs...whatever you want, i use 1 rat pack units for fun.
night runners - 5 or 13 is what I use
monks - 10, 18, or 21
censur bearers - 7 at least.
Rat ogers...unknown(nobody can get them to get their money's worth)
Gutter runners - 6 is usually good.
And finally jezzelles - 10(minimize panic) or 5 (minimize loss) both work.

Agree with cypher.

30 clanrats for the general to hide in is sufficient.
Slaves, personally I prefer 25 if your opponent has shooting, 20 if not, remember they are only there to slow the enemy down and divert enemy chargers.

Re:Optimal skaven blocks

I put him in with 25, I dont use a grey seer though. I found that magic is too unreliable. You could also go with 20 stormvermin for him. But 30 clanrats would definately be good.

Slightly Ot but a grey seer unreliable?

One of the prime candidates to get into the SAD is the Grey seer, 2 warplock enginseers (decked out), BSB combo, add screaming bell for FLAVA!

The above combo gives a withering hail of fantastic magic...

Re:Optimal skaven blocks

I wouldnt go with screaming bell. Cant leave unit and has a huge kick me sign on it.
Fun but not really a great adition to an army unless your good at protecting it and there are no cannons on the field (cant always count on a 3+ ward save). Archers are also a problem as they can pick the seer off the top of it.

O, and be watchfull of any warp lightgning cannons on the field. I have had mine shoot my greyseer in the back twice.

Re:Optimal skaven blocks

WHen I first started I would use the Grey seer on the screaming bell. I had a total of about 12 casting dice. I CONSTANTLY would miscast and the grey seer would not do much of anything at all. He is not like the lizardman mage that cannot miscast. I thought the grey seer was a no brainer. He seems to just piss people off and not really do what he has to when you want him to.

Re:Optimal skaven blocks

A Seer on a Bell seems to be all or nothing. Either he does spectacularily, or he fails miserably.

That said, that's half the fun of playing Skaven. I love the effects of the bell. It's so great when I start killing warmachines with it. Or the time I had a full unit of night goblins run of the table on the first turn due to a 13. And the bell killing the grey seer is always fun too.
