Lash and dangerous terrain tests

Okay suppose a Chaos player uses the lash to move either a unit mounted on bikes/jetbikes or with jump packs/flight. Now also suppose the Chaos player moves the unit into an area of difficult terrain. The question is does the unit have to take dangerous terrain tests. Suppose the unit forced to move was a squad of foot slogging Necron Warriors and they moved 7 - 12 inches. Obviously the Warriors can only move 6 inches normally so the extra d6 movement must be due to the psychic power of the lash. Bikes always have to take a dangerous terrain test when moving into difficult terrain so there is no getting around that. However the jump infantry unit should not have to test as they can either move up to 6 inches without using their jump packs and the extra d6 would be due to the psychic power of the lash.

- G

Lash and dangerous terrain tests

It says it right in the description:

"...the target is moved 2D6" by the Chaos player. The move is not slowed by difficult terrain, but dangerous terrain tests are taken as normal"

The description of the power states that it moves the target. It does NOT state that you can move the target 2D6 inches Straight up, straight down, diagonally through space, and specifically tells you that you cannot move them off the table, or into impassable terrain or within 1" of an enemy unit. That leaves only horizontal movement across the surface of the playing area. And, since this is called movement, it is not teleportation. The Lash doesn't cause you to 'blink' in and out, suddenly appearing in a new location, instead, the lash pushes you back with its force accross the table and the dangerous terrain.

Jump infantry, as their name suggests, are not constantly flying about, and land at the end of their movement phase. A Chaos psker, trying to disrupt and destroy his enemies, would probably not be so considerate as to activate the jumppacks of his enemy, no?

It is not the affected units movement phase. It is involuntary movement. The power of the Lash is the force behind their movement.

Why do I have a mental image of a Chaos Psyker, with a very cultured, upper crust accent speaking to a group of jump pack assault marines:

"Excuse me. I say, excuse me you space marine chaps. I' m rather embarrassed to have to tell you that I've, well, Ive managed to dislocate you from your current location with the psychic lash thingie. I'm dreadfully sorry, but if you all wouldn't mind moving over that way (points vaguely in the direction of the wood) I'd be ever so much appreciative. Thanks chaps."
(Psyker smiles nervously and waves as SM's shrug and move off, some ambling, some trotting and some jumping)

Rather Monty Pythonish to me

Lash and dangerous terrain tests

Laserbait wrote:It is not the affected units movement phase. It is involuntary movement. The power of the Lash is the force behind their movement.

You are correct as far as your statement goes. It certainly is involuntary movement... but the Lash rule does not grant the Chaos player the choice of how the unit moves when that unit has more than one means of moving. To say that it does is to add something that isn't written there. You might try to infer that the rule says the Chaos player may choose, but that is going down the RAI path...

Normal infantry can be moved by the Lash up to 12" - far beyond any normal means of movement for them. This means the act of moving is not in accordance with normal movement rules. To then turn around and say that jump infantry must be moved by one of their possible normal movement modes is trying to have your cake and eat it too.

Exactly Beast- it is NOT normal movement, and is NOT voluntary on the part of the target. I wasn't implying that the sorceror has a choice in the matter either. The rules aren't saying "If successful, the sorcerer can choose the mode of movement"
