Fury of the Ancients Pinning Test

The description of Fury of the Ancients in Codex: SM says "Every unit in its path will suffer D3 Strength 5, AP- hits and must take a Pinning test."

Does this mean that every unit in its path has to take a Pinning Test regardless of whether or not they were wounded by the attack?

Re:Fury of the Ancients Pinning Test

Isn't that exactly what it says?

It does indeed say what it says.

Let me try to put this into context and then ask my question another way.

I was playing a game against someone and cast FoTA. The opponent refused to take a pinning test because his unit didn't suffer any casualties. We then consulted the pinning rule in TBGB. The rule says that when a "unit inflicts casualties with pinning weapons, the target must take a Leadership test.." His arguement was that pinning could only be caused if a casualty was caused by a weapon that caused pinning.

In essence, his argument was that FoTA was a pinning weapon and that pinning tests only need to be taken when wounds are inflicted. My question is: is his argument right, or does fury of the ancients require a pinning test regardless of whether or not it inflicts a wound?

Fury of the Ancients Pinning Test

If furry of the ancients said that it was a pinning weapon, then you would have to actualy kill something to casue pinning. However, that's not the case. The power specificaly states that anything hit must take a pinning check, so that's what you do. Is that what GW intended? Who knows, but that's what the rules say so that's what you should do.

I think the primary problem you are running it is the fact that furry of the ancients isn't a pinning weapon. It just requires units hit to make a pin test. Units that take casualties from pinning weapons also have to take pin tests. See how those are different?
