Close Combat with Multiple units.

I'll start with how my group currently does CC when multiple units are involved.

A Space Marine Tac squad charged an Eldar Guardian Squad, as well as a Ranger squad, being able to make contact with both. Of the 10 Marines in that squad, 6 are within range to attack the Guardians, and the other 4 can attack the Rangers. Now the SM player would have to choose which unit will be "attacked". Do you make 12 attacks against the guardians, or 8 attacks against the Rangers. Basically, you have to pick one or the other to fight, while the rest of the unit just chills. The Eldar player gets to make full attacks with both of his units as well.

Is this wrong? I think so.

From how I read the section in the BGB about CC with Multiple units, everyone makes their attacks against whatever units they can. If you have models that can attack both units, you decide which one they'll go after. Is that how it's supposed to be resolved?

Yes that is wrong.

you look at each model separately. If it is in btb with a unit, it has to attack that unit. (If in btb with both, you can choose)
Other engaged models can choose between any enemy unit that it is engaged with.

All 10 marines would get to attack, you will have some control of how many attack each; but not total freedom.

Yeah, it is as Negativemoney stated, as far as I know, as long as you are base to base with it, or within 2" to support it-exceptions apply(ie IC's).

Re:Close Combat with Multiple units.

I'd like to add in a semi-related question that i was about to start a new thread on...

First off, let me state that I may be wrong on having read this somewhere.
I THINK I read it somewhere, but I cannot find it now.

How do you "handle" charging multiple units?
I mean, I know that your first moved model has to charge the closest model of the first unit you're charging, and that you have to maintain coherency, and that the rest of the rules for combat apply (no doubling up if you can engage a new model, etc.).
I'm looking at declaring charges.

I thought I read somewhere that you had to declare your charge and announce which was the main unit you were chargin, which was the second, and the third, etc. I can't find that anywhere, though.

The other option is that you charge into your main target, then overflow wherever you want afterwards (basically).

Am I imagining it?

If I'm not just crazy, and it is in a book or FAQ somewhere, I'd appreciate a page reference or FAQ reference.

Thanks, all.

Eric
