Line of sight? Blocking?

The rulebook says most friendly models do not block line of sight, but I didn't see it speficially saying if enemy models do.

So if I have

___XXX___
YYYYYYYYYY

OOOOOOO

Assuming all squads are infantry (say X=Oblits, Y=CSMs, O=SMs), and on the same level surface, can squad O shoot at Squad X by way of target priority? or does squad Y completely block line of site?

I ask because the rule book only seems to cover situations where both squads are exposed, or where there is a monstrous creature/vehicle.

eg:
XXXXXX__M
____YYYYYYY

OOOOOOOO

This is how most scenarios are explained in the rule book, squads O, X, Y are infantry and M is a monstrous creature. Clearly O can shoot at Y and M, or at X with a target priority test.

I digress, looking for an input on the first part for current 4th edition, I realize it is changing for 5th.

page 20 is very clear. look at the second paragraph. "...and enemy models can be ignored for line of sight purposes". Then it lists exceptions. So shoot away.

Line of sight? Blocking?

True, very few units block LOS and the ones that do are all listed on page 20.

While you may trace a LOS through a unit this does not neccesarilly meen that you can shoot at the unit further away, to do that you must first pass a target priority test but that is a different issue and one that you are aware of.
