Re:necron resurrection orb

Ok I will give it a shot.

First WBB, thise rules are a mess but I think I can sum them upp:

To be allowed to take a WBB test you have to ither:
A) have a standing model of the same type within 6". The model within 6" does not have to be from the same unit.
or:
B) have a standing model of the same type anywhere on the field and a tomb spyder within 12". Again the model does not have to be from the same unit.

Those two are imutable, if you can not fulfill ither then you are not allowed to take a WBB roll and the downed model is removed from the table.

Exception:
C) If the attack that downed the necron was a weapon capable of instakilling the model or a CC weapon that ignores armour saves then you will not be allowed to take a WBB test.

This is where the res orb comes in.

A Res orb will allow any model that fulfills A or B to make a WBB roll even if he is normally not allowed to make a WBB as per C.

Finally then, where do the returned necrons end upp?
Easy, simply check where the closest model of the same type as the one that got upp is and place the repaired necron in coherency with it, Yes this can and often does meen necron models switch units mid battle as they repair.

The only model that can ever repair if there is no other model of its type on the table is the necron lord, he does not have to have another lord within 6" he is however bound by the exeption C but a res orb on him or another lord within 6" will allow a WBB even if C (yes it works for him atleast if he is downed, I am not sure if it works for other downed within 6" of a downed lord.).

necron resurrection orb

The orb will affect any model whos unit has a model within 6" of the orb.

This meens the actual model does not ahve to be within 6".

Say a unit of necrons take 25% losses from shooting forcing a Ld test, the unit fails and retreats 2D6".

The X downed models at the "ambush" site fulfill one of the two criteria for WBB but some have been downed by an instakill weapon.

The retreating model at the very back that is furthest from the downed models is just barelly but still within 6" of the lord with res orb.

In this case all the downed models get to WBB.

In the end they may very well not even rejoin the unit it used to belong to but the very fact that a single model that at the time of WBB "belongs" to the same unit as the downed model is within 6" of the orb meens the downed model may WBB.

Gating a unit through a monolith will not allow you to try WBB on a model that was not in the first situation allowed to WBB, just allow rerolls to all failed WBB rolls.
This does meen that if the first roll was augmented by the orb then the second will count as being too.

In reality WBB are a mess, I personally feel you will be alot better off simply asking your friends if you can substitute it for Feel no Pain and have the orb and monolith gating augment this.

It gives almost the same effect, it becomes alot less confusing and makes the game alot faster.

Yes, there are differences, but the gain of streamlining is well worth it in my opinion.

Re:necron resurrection orb

I personally have never had a problem with the WBB rules. They always read clearly and concisely to me.

This being said, Fester, I think you need to take a look at the FAQ for the Res Orb.

Under the FAQ'd version, anytime a model with the Necron rule take a wound that necessitates a Res-Orb for WBB, you check the range to the Orb immediately. If the unit then falls back you move downed Necrons with the unit. Yes, this means that you can no longer make the unit fall back "off" the models waiting to self-repair. Unfortunately in true GW style, this ONLY applies to models requiring a res orb to WBB, models wiating to WBB in the "normal" fasion sit in place.
