Regeneration and CR

As posted by a fellow local gamer elsewhere:

After reviewing Father Nurgle’s forthcoming horde the word REGENERATION keeps popping up all over the place. Regeneration is an awesome power so I had a question about it
Question: Do the wounds that are saved by Regeneration count towards combat resolution or not?
Answer: YES THEY DO!!!!!!!

Explanation: On page 96 for those that actually have and read the Rulebook (cough). Regeneration is treated as a 4+ ward save with two exceptions (1) Regeneration cannot save wounds caused by fire. (2) It is not a ward save and is taken after ward saves so a model with regeneration can have an armor save, ward save and regeneration save.
On page 37 under combat resolution it states that you gain 1 point of CR for every wound caused after ARMOR and WARD saves. Not after Armor, Ward and Regeneration saves. Regeneration clearly stated it is not a ward save and is taken after ward saves. So you gain CR for every wound caused that is not saved by armor or wards then roll for regeneration to see if the model survives but you still get the CR bonus for the wound

Figured I would get input on this since it may have been ruled differently somewhere/somehow.

Considering the rule specifically says it is treated as a ward save with the exception of fire and it can be used with a true ward save, your friend is wrong.

Since it is treated as a ward save with only two exceptions. Any place which refers to a ward save also refers to a Regeneration save. The two times you don't treat it like a ward save is if fire is used or when there is another ward save is also taken.

Also remember that combat res is detirmined by unsaved wounds. Regeneration is a save. This is yet another RAW arguement that I doubt would be supported at any kind of tournament.

I like that. Try playing the game not the rules. I think that alot of people get too caught up in rules, that they forget to have fun. I think that is why I will never go to a tournament other than ones at my local store.

jmurph wrote:Try playing the game, not the rules. Much more fun.

You can't play the game without the rules.

And regardless, the rules are clear on this point anyway. Regen is treated as a ward save, and wounds saved with ward saves don't count toward combat res.

This thread is all the more proof that people should follow the rules.

Regeneration and CR

I agree with you that the rules on this are clear. the point of saying play the game not the rules, is to say play the game for fun. of course you need the rules, there wouldn't be a game without the rules. but to follow the rules so strictly in a system were there is so much room for interpritation and ambiguity is stupid. the rules are ment to be flexible, if it weren't so then there would be now way to introduce special rules and new ideas. the point is to follow the rules until there is a point that you can't find the rule to. then you make a decidion in the best manner possible, and find out later. And this is a RULE. RMEMBER the MOST IMPORTANT RULE! so get off your high horse telling everybody to foiiow the RAW and just accept that the rules somtimes don't cover EVERY SITUATION and often CAN be interprited in different ways. If this is true in sports like baseball that have a rules system going back for more than a hundred years, then it is definatly true in a fantasy game with different races that have different rules and so many special rules, and has only been around for 25 years.
