Two Empire Questions

Okay, after an interesting game of Empire vs. Vampire Counts some questions arose.

1) Where does it say that characters cannot join a Flagellant warband? In the Empire book there is no mention of any restriction on characters joining / leaving the flagellants.

2) For the Warrior Priests "Remains in Play" spells... as long as it is not dispelled, it remains in play, right? For example, for turns 1 - 3 I cast Armor of Contempt on a different target (the first time on the Warrior Priest, the second time on a wizard, and the third time on my other wizard), as long as the spell is not countered, or later dispelled, I now I have three models with a 4+ ward save. The Warrior Priest has had this save from turn 1, the first wizard from turn 2, and the second wizard from turn 3. In addition, on turn 4, I can cast a new spell, but the three Armor of Contempts still remain in play. Is this a correct interpretation of the spells permanancy? And, if it is, where in the BRT is this illustrated?

Thanks in advance.

Two Empire Questions

1) Flagellants are unbreakable. Characters cannot join unbreakable units unless they are also unbreakable.

2) "prayers are cast exactly like bound spells with a power level of 4" Since armor of contempt is a remains in play spell and the priests don't have a special rule that says otherwise, they follow the normal remains in play rules for wizards. Thus a single wizard can only keep one remains in play spell active at a time and as a consequence only one model may have armor of contempt at a time.

I could be wrong on #2 since I don't have my rulebook handy but this is how I understand the remains in play system. It is also why remains in play spells are inferior to the new "enduring effect" spells all the more recent armies are getting.

you can only have one remains in play spell for each wizard in the army. the spell ends when he chooses to end it, it is dispeled, or he casts another spell whether it is a remains in play spell or not. but i'm not sure if bound spells follow this restriction or not. I assume they do.

Re:Two Empire Questions

1) As said before unbreakable units can only be joined by unbreakable characters. Yes a WP can become unbreakable however it is safer to have him NOT join the flaggelants because their is no clear answer as to what would happen when your enemy dispelled his prayer and he was no longer unbreakable.

2) Each source of the spell casting can only maintain one RIP spell, its all about what/who casts the spell. If a character casts the spell then he/she can only maintain one RIP spell. However if an item casts the spell (like a Ring of Volans or Aldred's Casket of Sorcery) then it maintains the spell as long as the item is not used again to cast another spell or the spell is dispelled. This is not to be confused with the Golden Griffon's power to grant an Arch Lector on War Alter to cast a spell from the lore of light. The griffon does not cast the spell in this case, it simply allows the Arch Lector to cast an extra spell.

Hope that helps,

-Corey
