first 500 pt nid army

ok i havent bought anything yet but ive been reading the codex and i really like the sound of nids so ive come up with a list i think would be alrite for a 500 point army

HQ

3 warriors
1 with a devourer and scything talons
the other 2 with 2 pairs of scything talons
all with leaping

points= 91

Heavy Support

"Terrorbore" Carnifex
2 TL devourers
Enhanced Senses (+1 BS)

points= 113

"Screamer-Killer" Carnifex
Adrendal Glands (+1 WS)
2 Pairs of scything talons
Bio-Plasma
Mace tail

points= 118

Troops

8 Hormagaunts

points= 80

8 Spinegaunts

points= 40

This leaves me with 58 points that i dont know what to do with. i could get a couple raveners or another brood of spinegaunts.
I know this is a pretty nidzilla 500 point list with 2 carnifexes but i just love them so much.
i plan to advance the horma and spine gaunts up with the warriors so they stay in synapse control while the melee carnifex moves forward taking the enemy fire getting ready to tear up in CC with 4/5 cc attacks, while the ranged carnifex takes enemy troops apart with 8 S6 shots each turn.

I think this is a good army idea but if any1 has any ideas on how to improve my list then please post them

First, melee fexes suck. Don't bother.

Second, warriors need rending claws. Warriors aren't that good at shooting, and they're much better at melee.

Third, you have too much heavy stuff for 500 pts. I'd honestly question whether or not you actually needed a fex at all at 500. More troops, and more warriors. If you really felt the need, maybe a zoanthrope.

ok what if i dropped the melee fex and kept the gun fex for ranged support.
then get 8 genestealers to take up the point cost of the melee fex?
and a zoanthrope for synapse control?

Well, one dakkafex maybe. I'd still prefer more troops or warriors.

The only genestealers that should hit the table are armored ones, and at 20 pts apiece they're not a good choice for patrols. Your little stuff is going to get shot up, and 8 unarmored genestealers aren't going to last long. You need enough troops to present a viable threat so that your opponent isn't shooting at your more important stuff.

You need enough troops to present a viable threat so that your opponent isn't shooting at your more important stuff.

Sounds like pure theoryhammer to me. I find that a canny opponent will always shoot at whatever has the highest threat/durability ratio, regardless of how many gaunts you throw on the table in the hope that he'll get distracted.

The ugly truth is that the most powerful alteration to this lsit would simply be to drop the melee fex for another shooty fex and call it a day. At 500 points, people just can't deal with that. 2 dakkafexes > silly mindgames any day of the week.

Shrug, it would be powerful, but I just don't play that way. it would be like taking a Land Raider in a 500 pt game.

I'm not saying it's a particularly fun or nice thing to do (although I'm not saying it's necessarily un-fun or un-nice--it all depend son your gaming environment). I'm simply pointing out that your appraisal of the effectiveness of such an army is off-base. No, you do not "need" more gaunts to protect your "important stuff." The important stuff, when it consists of fexes, can protect itself just fine.
