Another couple of questions from a new player

Like I may have said in my previous thread, I am a new player to WHFB but previously had been playing WH40k for years so I must say some of my confusion comes from being conditioned with certain 40k thoughts. Anyways, to the questions.

1. I know in 40k, most of the codices have text in the wargear section that states that any items and equipment must be shown on the model itself. Basically, leading to the WYSIWYG thing. In WHFB, I can't seem to find anything similar to this in the Armybooks or in the BRB. When you select magic item for your heroes or regiments (such as magic banners), must this equipment be shown on the model? If so, do you have to make it apparent on the model that it may be magical and not somehow mundane?

2. I know Dwarves lack any conventional spell casting. The most they seem to have in this regard is the Anvil of Doom. From what I see in the Dwarves book, this anvil can only be taken by a Runelord. If this is the case, what use is the Runesmith in an army besides adding dispel dice? Perhaps this is more of a tactics question rather than rule based, but I'm confused as to what his overall purpose or role would be in an army if he can't bring spell like abilities to the table.

The runesmith is basically there to help dispelling. A dwarf army with one gets 5 dispel dice and 3 dispel scroll equivilants.
