Drop the Wraiths, they just don't do enough damage or are survivable enough to get much done. Get Scarabs or Flayed Ones for your CC units instead.

Or you might use those points to get another Heavy Destroyer, as a lone one will die real easy since it gets no We'll Be Back rolls. Make em each a separate unit of one, but keep them within 6" of each other.

Ohh, I thought they had a 3+ armour AND invul save. Silly me for not reading the 'dex carefully. I'll invest in another Heavy Destroyer and should I maybe pick up some normal Destroyers for fast attack?

Re:First Necron list -

they do have a 3+ inv save. probelm is they only have one wound so massed fire will kill them. it takes on average 9 bolter shots to kill a wraith, which isnt a lot.

rather than take heavy destroyers take normal destroyers. 3 or 4 is good. scarabs are a good cheap tarpit unit for tying up enemy cc troops. ive never found the phase shifter or the gaze of flame to be that good. if you lord is hanging around in a unit the inv save dosent matter that much and if you take a veil of darkness then you can make your stuff avoid combat anyway. to take the veil it would mean dropping the phylactery but it probably is worth it. for the same reasons i would get rid of the warscythe. you dont want your necrons being in combat so its not that good, especially since the lord loses his shooting with it.

with the points you have spare (up to 1000) just get some destroyers, more warriors or more immortals.

If you stay with the Heavy Destroyers, definitely follow Aduro's advice for separate units and spacing.

I personally would lean more towards regular destroyers as well in this list as they're more versatile and you're going to need that since they would currently be your only mid-long range fire support. Give me 3 s6 shots over 1 s9 any day! Not that heavies can't serve their purpose, but if you have to choose between the two, go with the regular Destroyers.

I recently had a Destroyer Lord take on 15 or so Ork Shootas and I was very glad that I took the Gaze of Flame, as it kept another 15 attacks off of me. It all depends on who you're going to be playing against and how you plan to play against them.

First Necron list -

And WHY would I want to keep my NL out of combat, when he comes with a power weapon and 5 strength? I took the inv save because at the moment he's not going to be in any units, since I don't have enough money left to buy more than 2 or 3 pariahs. The warscythe ignores armour, inv, FNP, toughness, and, like the 'dex says, ANY SAVE. Not to mention it gets 2D6+strength for AP against vehicles, so he can potentially destroy a land raider.

If you want a Lord decked out for close combat, I generally give mine a Destroyer Body, Nightmare Shroud, and Phase Shifter in addition to his WarScythe if he's going to be on his own. Alternatively I'll swap out the Shroud or Shifter for a Lightning Field and join him to a swarm of Scarabs.

I probably wouldn't bother with a Gaze of Flame until I finish my Lord that's going to run with my unit of Flayed Ones.

Keep in mind Lords are only WS4, Int4, A3. Not exactly close combat monsters, even if they can ignore invulnerable saves.

Righto then, no gaze of flame but I've already assembled him and I'm not going to buy a destroyer lord yet, because I'm going to run him with some FOs. Once my army's 1500+, I might add the Nightbringer for added
And are FOs plastic? Otherwise it'll take a long time to get some running.

Flayed Ones are still metal, sadly, but I think they're the coolest looking Necron model you can get.

If you're looking at getting a C'tan, I would consider the Deceiver over the Nightbringer. You trade 1 toughness and 1 attack for much more versatile abilities that will help your army overall. The Nightbringer's a very powerful, but very slow-moving close clombat killer. With the Deceiver, you can redeploy your army, make units take Ldshp tests at 24", make your other units terrifying, and, my personal favorite, disengage from combat during your opponent's assault phase, allowing the rest of your army to shoot them to smithereens.
