Build Request: Beasts of Chaos

Hey guys can someone build me a strong list with little to no minotaurs/ogres, based around tzeentch/slaanesh? I also prefer to keep the cheesiness low, and preferably no special characters and a small model count. Sorry for the ridiculous restrictions, but hope it's possible and thanks in advance.

My expertise is very limited, but from what you've described, you're asking something nearly impossible. No Minos/Ogres? Fine. Based around Tzeentch/Slaanesh? Possible. But strong and at the same time, low cheese content? No.

Not happening with this army book. The BoC book sucks right now. If you want to win at 2k pts, you're going to need to start by bringing 6 chariots. If you don't have the stomach for that, I'm not sure what I can do for you.

Ok that's good to know.

So if I lift the limitation of no minos/ogres, and the low model count, with a reasonable amount of cheese, that should be doable, yes? If so, I'd love to see what someone can come up with.

From what I understand, it's possible to do a list with lots of multi-wound baddies (which means a low model count) and have it be pretty good, but I have no idea where to start. You might consider checking out The Herdstone to get an idea of what people are building, but I don't hold the site in particularly high regard. You could also check The Warhammer Forum.

While I think neither is as brass-balled as this forum, The Herdstone is BoC-centric, while the Warhammer Forum gets a lot more traffic. The problem is that Dakka is very 40k-centric, and so the Fantasy side of the forums don't get much action.

Build Request: Beasts of Chaos

Having said that, I'd probably start with a Doombull and Minotaurs of Khorne. Unfortunately, you wanted to go Tzeentch/Slaanesh themed. Hmm.

Well, I imagine Minos of Khorne would work such that you'd use hounds to screen their frenzy.

Let's think about how Tzeentch might work:

I imagine you'd load up with 8 levels of magic with a Wargor as your general. But if you mark Minos to get more PD, you lose your MOCU, which, at LD7, you're goin to want. That sounds DOA.

Slaanesh might work. Doombull of Slaanesh with lots of Minos perhaps. Then use units of hounds to re-direct enemy units and even threaten flank charges. They'll hurt your goal of low model count, but if you need to take them. There's just nothing else that can do what they can do: be cheap, fast, and expendable. Spawns of Slaanesh are another obvious choice you'll need to take no matter what you're running. You won't have anything else that can move fast enough and tie up enemy units. You should be taking 4 every game.

Sorry, forgot to mention that. Yes, tournament play, I believe for tournaments fantasy goes around 2k-2.25k correct? And low model count isn't a huge problem, I actually really like the Gor/Ungor models. Tzeentch would be ideal just because I like the fluff and look, but I don't know strong they are. Would MoT work on that army fazz?

Build Request: Beasts of Chaos

Sort of, the problem is the lore is fairly pants :(
You will also have psychology problems - competitive beasts tends to be undivided, khorne or slaanesh to help with leadership.

Ld 8 only for the general would really hurt you unfortunately.

To make a tzeentch army work, I would run a demon prince led army, with quite a few units of minotaurs - that gives you lots of psychological advantages and reduces your own vulnerability.

Demon Prince: MoT, Blade of Ether, Soul Hunger, Totem
Bray Shaman: Level 2, scroll x 2
Bray Shaman: Level 2, scroll + darkoth

2 x Herd: 7/9, Full Command
2 x Herd: 5/8, Champion, Musician
2 x Tuskgor Chariot
2 x 5 Chaos Hounds

3 x 4 Minotaurs: Standard, MoT, Great Weapons
5 Furies

Lots of combined charge options and reasonable flexibility. Minotaurs + anything is winning, DP is very flexible.

10 casting, 6 dispel, 3 scrolls.

If you cannot use a HoC demon prince, its hard to make tzeentch work - you would not have access to staff of change + armour of damnatin either, which was the best beastlord combination :(

Overall, Tzeentch is fairly weak compared to Slaanesh, especially when you consider the lores.

Build Request: Beasts of Chaos

I don't think BoC work without taking the Doombull and/or Mino's as core. It makes a very big difference to your army to both have LD9 and a lot of cheap, fast moving, heavy hitters who bring a lot of reliability to the table you don't otherwise get.

Given that, you can make a better version of the Ogre Kingdoms style army:

Mino's w/ Great Weapons > Iron Guts
Small minimum sized units of Beast herds to redirect charges.
Hounds to screen and also bait charges (flanking duty)
Good, cheap chariots to support the Minotaurs.
Solid offensive magic or just really good defense.
