Interesting Nid build for 1750

Oh to start off I am unsure 100% of the build cause I was busy talking and not paying attention 100% but I saw and interesting Nid build for tournament play this weekend. Was a nice balance of shooty and face rape. So here is my attempt to reconstruct from memory and tearing through the Nid codex for point values.

HQ: 1x Winged tyrant , with warpblast, 2x scything talons, toxin sacs, and warp field
203 points
1x Brood Lord w/11x genesteelers Lord had toxin sacs and extended carapace steelers had scythingtalons and extended carapace
354 points
Elites: 2x Lictors no specials
160 points
Troops: 12x Genesteelers scything talons, extended carapace
288 points
12x Genesteeler same as above
288 points
5x Shooty gaunts
60points
Heavy: Gunfex ehnaced senses, extended carapace, toxinsacs(maybe), 2x Venom cannon
Gunfex same as above but 2x Barbed strangler
368 points
Total: 1721

Now my math could be off as I am sure it is but this is something close to what she was playing. It did not loose a single game the gunfexes managed to shut down most heavies before they became a threat she would loose half here genesteelers and thats about it the winged tyrant rocked every vehicle it came close to. The lictors though they were there really never did anything but they never died either. Perhapse it was just a skilled player, but it caught my attention. What do you all think?

After looking at this list a couple times I was thinking since I never saw the gaunts even able to fire and the lictors did next to nothing drop 1 lictor and the gaunts and get another gunifex with twin VC. More ranged power with no inactive models and another MC to draw a ton of fire while the Genesteelers move in.

Re:Interesting Nid build for 1750

Well one this isn't my build I am just rebuilding what I saw. The Genesteelers at that cost where brutaly effective, the combination of 3 attacks per model 4+ Save and rending made them just vicious against Special characters and vehicles. I honestly have no idea what the gaunts were supposed to do, thats why if I do a similar build I am throwing them out and replacing them with a third Gunifex. But I see the wisdom in mixing up the gun combinations for the fexes that way if one dies you don't loose all your template weapons or single target hard hitting weapons. Thank you though for being the only one who responded.

Re:Interesting Nid build for 1750

With the new close combat wound allocation rules, using the Lictors for anything more than small-man squad exterminating (Eldar Pathfinders or IG/Tau gunlines, for instance) could prove very hazardous to their health. However, with the new feeder tendril re-roll misses they don't get hurt too badly by the rending only on wounds. I can see them being situationally awesome, but overall very expensive for their cost and lack of survivability.

The reason Battlekai mentioned the Genestealer's high cost is because instead of a single Stealer having both Carapace and Talons, you could have another Stealer. Twice as many bodies is much better than slightly upgraded bodies. Feeder Tendrils are now pretty awesome, though, so a very worthy upgrade for a scant one point per model.

I like the broodlord, but I wouldn't bother giving him toxic sacs since he already has monstrous strength (2d6 against vehicles, no armor saves for creatures). Implant attacks are very nice when going toe-to-toe with other ICs, and not too expensive. Again, for the amount of points you've spent on upgrades you could get way more genestealers, which is better by a large margin. Now, you could make the argument to beef out the Broodlord's Retinue, so you have a squad of hardcore stealers to run with him. However, I'd personally rather just have another squad of genestealers for the same price and bounce him between the two as a wound shield.

Well, time for class! Must be off.

Interesting Nid build for 1750

The lictor is good for hunting tanks in 5th. str6 on rear armor is fun. Also he can follow behind other units to give them tendril re-rolls and sit pretty with a 2+ cover save.

The broodlord isnt a MC. He ignores armor in cc but doesnt get 2d6 for penetration. Carapace isnt needed for him since he cant be picked out in CC with a retinue. I think the broodlord is good with tendrils and toxin sacs. Give his retinues either EC or acid maw or both if you wanna spend the points.

cant a tyrant only have 1 psychic power? I'm at work so I cant check but cant he not have both warp field and blast?

a small unit of gaunts with without number will make decent objective holders but will suck in KP missions if you cant hide them.

Re:Interesting Nid build for 1750

Ya like I said this is the best I could do from memory of seeing and hearing them discuss her army and watching her play a number of games with it. It was not until I left that I was kind of curious about the actual build, because she never lost and the way the games ususally played out she was winning by a large margin by turn 3. Ya I agree lictors are expensive but they count for scoring and holding positions on the table so havign one isn't a bad idea even if it just hangs back and secures your victory. Again I know the steelers seem expensive but I cannot deny how incredibly effect they were against a well guilt guard, eldar, and Witchhunters army. But your sggestions will be well considered if I decide to do a variant of this build. The brood lord is just another thing to give them pause and to freek out since you will normaly be able to infiltrate him. So they have 11 steelers and a brood lord bearing down from behind them or on their side. While they have to concentrat all fire on the Tyrant in hopes of taking him down before he shreds their heavies. Whilst the Gunifexes pound them with hard hitting shots and templates. I know some things seem better on paper but I saw this in action and it was devestating.

Interesting Nid build for 1750

Only one power on Tyrant for sure, so need to decide which to have (Warp Field I think is much better).

My 4ed list is kinda similar in structure, although it is based around scuttle/stealer shock and not uberstealers.

At 1500 points, it is a pretty strong list but is very terrain dependent. End up on bowling ball or a shooting gallery and it struggles. 5ed being what it is I think you'll need gaunts to provide some cover and scuttle to get you into combat at a decent pace.

Re:Interesting Nid build for 1750

Ya again I am trying to build this list off of just hearing some one talk about it and watching them play lol. But they did use both so maybe the broodlord has the psyker attack I really do not know. As for speed getting across the table if positioned right and you don't roll complete crap you are almost garaunteed an assult second turn. Them killing my Steelers is not much of a concern witht he fire power the fexes will be pouring out not to mention the flying tyrant getting in thier face. And since I have no lesser creatures I do not have to worry about loosing synapse creatures.

Also I hate gaunt models they are just ugly I do however love the gunfex look and there is nothing better then a well modded Flyrant with 4 scything talons IMHO. I have never played nids and until after this army caught my intrest I had acually never even looked at the nid manual. So this whole army is a new concept to me. I do know that the steelers were 24 points a piece cause she was complaining how expensive they were but at the same time the damn things were chewing through ranks of marines like a fat man through "crispycreams".

The carnifexes were also just locking down all of thier heavies via stunned and the occasional 6 for the pen and then kaboom usually. I have no idea how this army would perform against say a well organized gun line it could potentially be the end of this army. Again I am unsure. Thanks for your inputs and criticisms cause other wise I would not have had a clue lol.

Apparently I cannot spell -__-
