Markerlights, Tau Jet packs, movement and firing?

In 5th ed, can a model with Tau Jet pack move and fire a heavey weapon. i.e. a marker light?

The rules for the jet packs have changed.
if

models with jet pack have the relentless special rule. p 52

and if

Relentless: . . . modles can shoot rapid fire and heavy weapons counting as stationary. . .

Then since drones, stealth suits and battlesuits all have jet packs and markerlights are heavey weapons. They should be allowed move and fire their markerlights.

However, since broadsides do not have jet packs, they cannot fire heavy weapons if they have moved, unless they have ADV Stab System.

Does this make sense or am I missing something?

Markerlights, Tau Jet packs, movement and firing?

Before I wrote the question I had not read the FAQ, now that I have color me even more confused. I quote the FAQ for accuracy:

Q. If a unit with ASS also has Marker Drones can the drones remain stationary to fire their markerlights while the Battlesuits move using their ASS
A. No, since models in the unit moved the drones which do not have a stabilization system may not fire a heavy weapon.

This sort of covers the question, but according to the rules in the new BBB, jet packs now confer relentless on the person who has one. Gun drones have Jet packs, per the Tau Empire Codex. Now the Tau Codex states that jet packs let you fire rapid fire weapons as if you have not moved, but 5th ed, changes that to both rapid and heavey per the special rules for relentless. The above question boils down to, If one model in my unit moves, do all the models move? I mean it could just as easily have stated, If one XV88 in my squad has ASS and moves but the other remains stationary can I fire both? According to the relentless rules the drones no longer need ASS to fire a marker light if they have moved.

Where does it say that Gun drones who are with units that don't have jet packs lose their Jet packs. If a gun drone is wargear, then it moves according to it owner, that does not mean it loses its Jet pack. Before this generalization did not matter, but now it does, because jet packs give the owner not only a 6 in assault move but also relentless. ( If you could quote the rule in the tau codex that states they lose the jet pack please do. ) I mean if a Shas'o in a XV 8 joins a fire warrior squad, he loses his 6 in assault move but does not lose his ability to fire his weapons as if he had not moved.

I guess the best way to ask this is in a two part question:
1. Can a unit with a Tau jet pack fire heavy weapons if it has moved?
2. Can a Markerlight drone attached to a non-jetpack equipt unit fire its markerlight if that unit has moved?

Maybe, Yakface can weigh in on this one? Or maybe I really am "lost" on this.

(edit cause I hit the wrong button earlier, damn my age and the internet...lol)

Markerlights, Tau Jet packs, movement and firing?

The rules for drones are specific. Check page 31 of the Tau codex. Drones are specifically listed as unit type: As owner.

The FAQ is only trying to address Broadsides and ASS. Here's the breakdown, it's already been said but maybe this will add clarity:

Drones attached to a unit have the same unit type as their unit. So:

Drones attached to Crisis or Stealth teams are type Jump Infantry (Jet pack). This gives them the Relentless special rule. The unit can move, and then they can still shoot their heavy weapons.

Drones attached to Broadside teams are type Infantry, just like the broadsides. ASS gives the Broadsides the ability to move and shoot heavy weapons. It does NOT give this ability to the whole squad. Since the drones do not (and can not) purchase ASS, they cannot shoot if the broadsides move. You could do this with two broadsides too - buy ASS for one and some other wargear for the other. If they move, only the one with ASS could shoot.

So, again, drones take the unit type of the unit they are attached to. Only Jump Infantry (Jet Pack) units get Relentless. Drones attached to regular Infantry units DO NOT get to move and shoot as they do not have the Relentless special rule.

Markerlights, Tau Jet packs, movement and firing?

lambadomy: The unit type is different from how the individual model is equipt.
Is a gun drone by itself equipped with a jet pack, yes or no?
If yes, does it lose the jet pack when attached to non jet pack equipt units? I understand its unit type changes, but that is different than its basic equipment changing. ie does a Shas'o in a battle suite who attaches himself to a firewarrior squad lose the benfits of being in a crisis suit?

The jet pack rules state:

Models with jet packs have the "relentless" special rule

It states models, not unit type, receive relentless. A gun drone is a model, a gun drone has a jet pack it does not lose the jet pack just because it is attached to a regular infantry unit any more than a crisis suit does. All that must happen is the drones or crisis suit must abide by the assaulting limitations of any unit it has joined, it the unit is not relentless.

Markerlights, Tau Jet packs, movement and firing?

Models with Jet packs have the relentless special rule.

Drones (of any type) only have jet packs if the unit that they were bought for have jet packs.

Gun drones bought for a squad of fire warriors lose their jet packs and any special rules related to it. Not that it matters, since their weapons are assault 1. Gun drones rules specifically say unit type "as owner"

If you are a jet pack IC (say the shas'o) and you join a unit of fire warriors, you are still relentless, but they are not. As listed under the Relentless special rule.

Anyway - gun drones, marker drones, shield drones - they are unit type as owner. They do not have jet packs when they are bought by a squad that does not have jet packs.

I know it sounds dumb that the gun drones lose their jet packs that they would get otherwise if they were in their own unit. In reality it doesn't matter at all - they are Assault 1, they don't care. This is a case where your equipment specifically is determined by your (initial) unit type, not by any wargear or equipment section. No where for drones or suits does it say they have "jet packs" for equiptment. It's just a unit type.

Marker drones have no Jet Pack to lose. No where does it say that Marker drones get a Jet Pack as part of their equipment. It just says that they are unit type "as owner". Maybe the Tau don't bother putting Jet Packs on the Marker drones that travel with Fire warriors and Broadsides since they wont be jumping anywhere anyway.

Anyway, this only matters for the Marker drones, as they have a heavy weapon.

Markerlights, Tau Jet packs, movement and firing?

lambadomy and Maz, I guess thats the problem in a nut shell, I was looking at Jet packs as a peice of equipment not a movement type or unit type.
