"...They wanted to assault?.."

Flayed Ones assaulting from a Monolith is a common tactic.
Looks like Necrons teleporting through the Monolith portal...

I see where Green is getting this from in the FAQ and I think that he's right. If either the unit or the Monolith has moved, the Necrons are disembarking from a "moving" vehicle and therefor cannot assault after disembarking. Unfortunately the wording leaves somewhat to be desired and as aduro said, "The FAQ says they can't move, it doesn't say they can't assault. " so people will argue it.

Looks like Necrons teleporting through the Monolith portal...

It doesn't say they count as disembarking from a moving vehicle, it just says they can't move. The Necron codex specifically states that they count as disembarking from a stationary vehicle. To me, this is less FAQ and more Errata as it's changing how it's clearly described to work.

OK, the FAQ 'implies' that they are disembarking from a moving vehicle based on the 'cannot move' clause. After all, the only time you can't move after disembarking is if the vehicle moved, right? Better?

Re:Looks like Necrons teleporting through the Monolith portal...

Well it looks like not only did the new edition rulebook nerf some armies/units, but the new faqs also added insult to injury. Nothing has really changed since the old faq except the Monolith is not allowed to move prior to the teleported unit if you want the unit to move. This would now completely nerf the method of 01. deep strike Lith... 02. teleport Flayed Ones... 03. FOs move then assault... nerfed because the Deep Strike counts as movement for the Monolith.

As for the topic on hand - the FAQ based on the question and answer is related to movement in the Movement phase.

If a squad of Flayed Ones moved into teleport range of the Monolith, they would be limited to the 2" disembark rule. If an enemy unit however was within assault range of the Flayed Ones after the port, the FOs could charge the unit.

And did you notice despite the codex and previous faq: the center hole of the Particle Whip is no longer a sniping reference point.

Curious which armies did not get hosed between the new rules and the new faqs... hhmm... Space Marines ?

To be perfectly honest, and just slightly off topic, these new faqs seemed to have been released prematurely - a rushed project in an attempt to bring armies up to date. With some proper thinking and collaborating these might have looked better gamewise in like three months down the line. I mean really, what's the sudden need for a FAQ ?.. it took how long after the release of Codex: Eldar to get a FAQ ?.. Codex: Chaos Space Marines ?.. something simple like does a powerfist work against a Monolit ?..

Here's one ( dark eldar related ) that really cracks me up - in a nerfed kinda way:

Q. What do gruesome talismans do?
A. They no longer ( have ) any effect in this edition of the game.

Wow ! Let's just hurry up with releasing new faqs and in the process eliminate things at our discretion.

Personally I liked the Gruesome Talisman ( for topic sakes it basically adds a "model" for the purpose of outnumbering ). But now it simply has no effect. But food for thought: what if we did the magical remove-text-and-replace-with-the-following ( gw has done it before ) and handle the Gruesome Talisman something like this - A model equipped with a Gruesome Talisman counts as causing a casualty for combat resolution purposes only.

The tactic is better than deepstriking and then moving/assaulting because the monolith simply cannot be destroyed by deepstriking unless it scatters off of the table. So that means whatever unit that is using the monolith as that tool has safe points to deploy on the table risk free. THEN they get to move and THEN shoot and THEN assault (if the gun is assault classed) ....all in the same turn.

Overpowered much? Definitely. Necrons are really weak ruleswise right now, but that type of tactic is really going overboard on the cheddar factor.

This is all my opinion of course, for what it is worth.
