What is really TLOS and how does it affect the game now?

Okay, I've read through most of the 5th Ed Rulebook and evidently Line of Sight (LOS) has been altered greatly from the previous edition.

A poster on this forum had noticed that Close Combat no longer block LOS. Now, I'm looking at the rules and have found no indication any terrain or buildings actually block LOS. The rules indicate True Line of Sight (TLOS) but it also inferred that "units" whether enemy or player's own do not block TLOS because they provide cover saves for the units behind them.

So, my question is whether enemy or friendly vehicles and/or Monstrous Creatures block TLOS?

It's what your model could see... if he could see. LOL
Whether or not a tank blocks TLOS depends on what you're hiding behing it.
You can't see those Space Marines or Imperial Guard behind those tanks, but Your Daemon prince and, possibly, Ogryn are visible.

Very similar situation with the MC. It depends on where he is in relation to the model trying to see around him & what it's trying to see.

Eric

When they mean true line of sight, that's really what they mean. A vehicle or monstrous creature blocks line of sight if it is physically in the way between the firer (specifically his eyes/head) and the target. If you can draw a straight line to the target (say with a laser pointer), LOS is not blocked. If you can't it is. Close combat doesn't block LOS per se, but the individually models do physically block line of sight to anything not tall enough to see over them. It's possible you could see between models fighting in CC, but most likely not since they'll mostly all be packed up in a big base-to-base mob.

If you draw LOS between the members of a unit (or between elements of area terrain like trees) they target unit will get a cover save, but you can still see it unless the straight line is physically blocked.

So, in effect, close combat will block TLOS if there are no gaps between models to see through.

Thanks !
