Slaanesh/ Tzeentch Ld Abuse army.

Hi all,

I am a new player but fairly clued up to game mechanics etc...I think...
I'm starting gaming with a group of friends so while reading the following please bear in mind that the only armies I will be fighting initially will be:
Wood elves (glade guard heavy), Bretonnians, Orcs & Goblins, Vampire Counts, High Elves, Beastmen.

Looking through the Daemons army book I had the idea of an army focussed on leadership abuse, magic and speed.

Here's what I'm thinking:

KoS (L4 wizard) - for Slicing Shards, Pavane and Phantasmagoria
Herald of Tzeentch (Master of Sorcery - Death Lore) - for Doom and Darkness!, Walking Death (pushes Daemons Fear -> terror for terror bombing.)
Masque - for Dance of Dreaming
BSB - Great Icon of Despair

I was originally wanting to play a Dark Elf Cult of Slaanesh with a focus on magic. Turns out that they're not really playable any more :(
So I'm looking for a force that can overwhelm most any army with magic and moves fast. I'd quite like to stick to Slaanesh and Tzeentch as having enemy Gods in the same army doesn't sit well with me. (Plus Khorne is annoying )

Am I correct in believing that the only spell casters Slaanesh can get are KoS, Heralds (L1), and Daemon Princes (L2)? This makes it very difficult to make a straight Slaanesh magic force.

So rough idea for 2250 pt army:

KoS, L4 Wizard, Allure of Slaanesh, Soporific Musk = 620
The Masque = 90
Herald of Slaanesh, L1 Wizard, Many Armed Monstrusity = 190
Herald of Tzeentch, BSB - Great Icon of Despair, Master of Sorcery - Death (apart from against Wood elves in which case Life for The Howler Wind), Spell Breaker = 265

12 Daemonettes, Full Command = 174
10 Horrors, Full Command = 174
16 Horrors, Full Command = 174

5 Seekers of Slaanesh, Full Command = 150
5 Seekers of Slaanesh, Full Command = 150

3 Screamers of Tzeentch = 90

4 Flamers of Tzeentch = 140

2241 Total.

Comments/criticism?

Especially from Negativemoney or anyone else with experience with Slaanesh daemon armies etc.

Thanks very much all.

Here is the basic problem against every army except VC, Tombs and Daemons you will terror bomb the enemy off the board in short order. Will you win? Yes will it be a fun game for your opponent? Probably not.

So this is not what anyone would call a "friendly list", no problem. but is it tournament competitive? No because the 3 armies that are immune to terror force you to waste over 75pts and without the LD trick your army is fairly weak.

In other words you will tick off the players of most armies you will win against and are very vulnerable to armies your trick is usless against.

As for improvments full command on the horrors is a waste save the points for elsewear.

If your herald of tz is carrying the banner he needs mobilty as it's radius is only 12' and you need it near your KOS so buy him a flying chariot.

If your going for terror drop your slaneesh herald and buy a second flying Tz herald. drop a squad of seekers and invest in furies. Cast the "fear causer become terror causer spell" out of death on the furies and make them a second terror bomb.

I think the better way of doing this is Kairos as your flying terror causer, a flying BSB with Great Icon of Despair and the Masque. With Kairos nova-ing and terror ing you can force a test for all the units around you in the magic phase, as well as the terror phase next round, and he's less likely than the Keeper to take a charge (though infinitely less fighty)

The elves will give you a run for your money considering their shooting and itp combat troops. For the most part, I think that you'll tear up armies which you can outmaneauvre, but you'll have a hard time against people able to play keep away from the keeper, and hit the soft slaaneshi/tzeentch support before you are able to fear everyone off of the table.

In short: you should tear up beasts and orcs, have a pretty easy time with the high elves (unless he's packing a star dragon...) and bretonnians, and the VC/WE types should be a good game.

Finally, I think that the only reason to take a slaaneshi herald is to get seiren. It's just that good.

You have a lot of miss matched units in the list. For starters Full command is not needed on the 3 core units. it is a large waste of points and will potentially give your opponents some free VPs.

Now on to your characters which are all kinds of messed up. First for the Keeper the best way to run him is with Allure, Siren, Torment Blade, and Soul Hunger. Second is the Herald of Slaanesh, She should be the BSB and given a Steed of Slaanesh Allure and Siren she should not be a wizard. Third the Tzeentch Herald needs flying horror instead of the dispel scroll. Do not and I repeat do not give him a disk or a chariot.

give the seekers a siren banner to make them significantly more effective.

Finally you need to loose the Screamers and add in some Furies. When your opponent runs away its best to have them run into something.

@Etherdude, There is no such thing as Keep away from a Keeper if the Keeper is fielded properly. ItP armies are effected just as easily as those that aren't If they loose combat they run even if they loose by 1.

Star Dragons are horrible against a Keeper backed up with LD modifying items. There is no way it will every be able to attack the keeper.

War machines are the bane for this army and you need an effective way of killing them before the keeper starts doing his thing. That is where the Furies and single model Fiend units come in. They are effective war machine hunters.

Slaanesh/ Tzeentch Ld Abuse army.

Negativemoney:
I like a lot of your recommendations; siren looks like a nasty nasty power, and you articulated some issues that I had with the list and couldn't quite put my finger on.

However, I disagree with you on the keeper.

1) No keep away: the model is a monster, therefore has 90 degree line of sight, and can be marchblocked. I'm not seeing any movement spells in the list, so I don't see why the keeper can't be kept out of the way. With siren, this will be difficult, but as listed, there aren't that many in the list.

2) Why on earth would the dragon go after the keeper unless he was siren'd (unsure of the proper spelling there...) into the monster? I am quite sure that he would eat through everything else in the list in a turn or two, if properly supported.

3) Huh? Even if they lose by one they are going to run? If they lose combat (which is never a garaunteed thing) they still need to take a break check, and unless I'm missing some demonic ability, do not suffer from the fear auto-break. And again, we come to the idea that combat WILL happen and it WILL happen on the demons' terms, which will not be universally the case.

I don't have much game-time against a slaanesh heavy list; most of the ones that I've dealt with have been tzeentch/khorne oriented. Thusly, it's theory hammer coming from me, and how I would handle this army with my elves.

cheers

Etherdude.

Siren + Keeper is a trap that most can't avoid even with a 90 front arc M10 allows him to get where he needs and when he needs to be there. With the support of Seekers the keeper will be able to trap anything he wants to go after.

As for the Dragon, that is the main reason to have Siren is to Prevent Units like the Dragon from Charging something else in the army. There is not a single character in the Game that defeat the Keeper in
combat when the LD game is being played.

The LD manipulation extends to combats. and when your opponent loses combat he will have to test on a dramatically lowered LD and from what I have experienced they don't stay very long.

Slaanesh heavy list is very deadly and a lot of people underestimate its actual power.

Why the hate on for Tz Chariots? I swear by them. The main enemy of my flying units are ranged attackers. An extra 4 T4 wounds is worth it on its own.

A 50x100mm foot print is not something you want to have in an army like this. Also being limited to a 90 arc of site will hurt you more than help you in the long run.

Re:Slaanesh/ Tzeentch Ld Abuse army.

Thanks very much everyone! Very helpful replies and tips.

How about this:

KoS, L4 Wizard, Allure of Slaanesh, Siren Song, Torment Blade, Soul Hunger = 650
The Masque = 90
Herald of Slaanesh, L1 Wizard, BSB - Great Icon of Despair, Many Armed Monstrosity = 290
Herald of Tzeentch, Master of Sorcery - Death, Winged Horror = 160

10 Daemonettes, Alluress = 132
10 Horrors, Icon of Sorcery = 135
10 Horrors = 120
10 Horrors = 120

5 Seekers of Slaanesh, Alluress, Siren Standard = 157

5 Furies = 60
5 Furies = 60
5 Furies = 60

6 Flamers of Tzeentch = 210

Total: 2244 pts

Realized the invaluable nature of furies and possibly went overboard.

Most unsure about the Slaanesh Herald vs second Tzeentch Herald quandry. Slaanesh means my BSB will be nearer the action with a unit of ASF daemonettes and gives me attacks as well as awesome modelling opportunity (pretty much the reason I want Many Armed) whereas Tzeentch gives me a different lore with Master of Sorcery (Drool) and after hanging out for a bit with some horrors to give them a 4+ ward he could fly with my BS to keep it within 12 while keeping out of charge visibility. Am leaning towards a second Tzeentch Herald but open to being convinced.

Why not give the Slaanesh Herald L1 Wizard? I really want another Slaanesh spell caster and it's the only way to get one, plus 2 dice are enough to cast most things in the Lore.

Thoughts people? Thanks again...

The list looks solid. What it is going to come down to is just learning how to run it so everything works together.

The Furies are good. I usually like to run 3 units of 6. Good luck with this one.
