New DE question

Alrighty, there is a magic item in the new DE book that makes your opponent take a LD test on 3d6.

What do you think would happen if you used it against the Lizardmen, would they just get the 3, or would they roll 4d6 and discard the highest. This hasn't actually come up yet in a game for me, but would just like to get opinions before it does.

Thanks.

Cold-blooded means you roll 3d6 and discard the highest. I think the DE item would prevent the lizardman player from discarding the highest die.

[Edit:] I've changed my mind, see below.

The Lizardmen would get 3d6 minus the highest, but the Dark Elf comes back and says No and you have take it on 3d6 [no removing the highest].

New DE question

I'll bet that you have to dice off for it.

No, one army book does not overrule another army book (unless it is more specific, and directly applicable).

For example, how about that item versus the Dwarf rune that allows a Ld test on 1D6?

New DE question

The item in question is the Crystal of Midnight; it is one use only, it can only be used against wizards, and failure to pass the Ld test results in the loss of a spell for the rest of the game.

So dwarfs have nothing to worry about.

1) The Crystal forces a wizard to take a Ld test on 3d6 (not 1d6 higher than normal, so none of that 4d6 stuff).

2) A Lizardman wizard may be forced to take his Ld tests on 3d6, but that is just forcing him to do something he does normally; then cold-blooded allows him to discard the lowest result.

The more I think about this, the more I feel that this item will have no effect against lizardmen, after all.

[Edit:] Did I say discard the lowest? I meant the highest.

New DE question

I really appreciate the insight. And Fell....I think I might have to agree with you as your last thought makes the most logical sense while sticking to the letter of both books.

In the future, however, I would ask you to refrain from good logic. :}

Well, at least we have a banner seeped in their blood...
