Does anyone know what the missions will be at the Vegas GT this year? They usually release them with the GT pack, but I haven't been able to find them yet.

I was wondering the same thing. I don't think GW has put together missions for 5th Edition. They might not do anything about it until the last minute.

~Logic

Re:More of a question - sorry! - Any word on GT missions?

Hi guys

There has been a lot of discussion with different groups and individuals across the country regarding the missions for this year's 40K GTs here in the US.

We all know that 5th Edition has shaken things up in way that couldn't have been predicted a year ago. To that end we'll be running with the missions in the Rulebook, in a very similar ratio. I expect players will play two Seize Gound, two Annihilation, and one Capture and Control. This way everyone has to "be prepared" to face a variety of enemy forces, achieve a variety of mission parameters, and no single army build should prevail. It also keeps things straightforward as we are all settling in to the new edition.

We've done a bit of tweaking at the back end with the Battle Points breakdown and Battle Points Modifiers, and we expect to see a pretty good spread of results across the 5 games.

So, build your armies wisely, or just come along to throw down for five fun games of 40K ; )

I hope this helps.

Cheers
Dave Taylor
GW US Community Development Manager

More of a question - sorry! - Any word on GT missions?

Hey Dave, I was hoping you guys would continue with using multiple objective missions even with the release of 5ed. I think they work a bit better and are still doable in 5ed. I ran a tournament this weekend with primary and secondary objectives (primary was a 5ed objective, secondary was a 4ed objective tweaked for 5ed). It worked really well and wasn't as daunting to players as a 3 objective mission might have been. Perhaps next year I guess.

Hi guys

@ Lormax - we'll be using VPs as tiebreakers.

@ winterman - the Battle Point Modifiers introduce that kind of element (multiple objectives), but not to the same degree as the Primary/Secondary/Tertiary missions used in many 4th Ed tournaments. I think you'll be satisfied. On the flipside I'm keen to see the scenarios you used and hear your thoughts on what worked well or was well received by the players (and what didn't). Could you post up the basics and commentary?

Cheers
Dave

More of a question - sorry! - Any word on GT missions?

I kept it pretty simple since most attendees were really new to 5ed. The intent was to get a spread of points without requiring an arbitrary way of deciding how victorious someone was (eg number of objectives held, qty of kill points difference, etc).

For simplicity I had no modifiers and kept it at 2 objectives instead of 3. Primary points were Win=12, Draw=5, Loss=2. Secondary points were Win=8, Draw=3, Loss=1. I wanted draws to be worth a bit less to encourage winning at least one of the objectives.

Basic breakdown is below. I can email word docs if anyone wants to see the actual sheets used.

Mission 1 Capture and Cleanse
Spearhead (Quarters deployment)
Rules were standard 5ed (reserves, infiltrate, deep strike, seize the initiative, etc)

Primary Objective was Capture and Control straight out of the rulebook.
Secondary Objective was Quarters from 4ed. I decided to keep this as written for 4ed, so only scoring units could capture or contest a quarter, so in 5ed this meant only troop choices counted. Favored troop heavy lists but they would suffer a bit in the following missions. I think allowing any unit to contest would be workable though, although cheap transports become a real bear.

Mission 2 Kill and Claim
Dawn of War deployment
Rules were standard 5ed (first turn night fight, reserves, infiltrate, deep strike, seize the initiative, etc)

Primary Annhilation straight out of the 5ed rulebook
Secondary Field of Battle from 4ed. Most scoring units within 12" wins.

Mission 3 Seize and Subdue
Pitched Battle deployment
Rules were standard 5ed (reserves, infiltrate, deep strike, seize the initiative, etc)

Primary Seize Ground straight out of the 5ed rulebook.
Secondary Victory Points straight out of the 5ed rulebook.

Only 1 person managed 60 battle points although we only had 14 attendees.

Rest of the the tournament borrowed from the current GT packet (sports scoring was identicle; painting was similar but halved since only 3 games were played).

Hope that helps. Any questions let me know
