Thinking about it more, doubling the fire dragons to 10 men would probably be better, or perhaps including a squad of rangers. Deploying into cover near an objective and going to ground sounds like a really nice way to hold onto an objective!

I'm not 100% on this because I've never seen it done before, but can you fire the Reaper Launcher and move on the jetbike?

What is your plan for this army? How do you see yourself expanding it?

I you are a fan of the jetbike squads, skip the Fire Dragons for now and get a retinue of Warlocks on jetbikes. Riding around casting powers and hurling spears... it'd be a blast!

Swordbreaker wrote:I'm not 100% on this because I've never seen it done before, but can you fire the Reaper Launcher and move on the jetbike?

Yes. Though I know battle reports and the like aren't the most accurate, the new "Tale of 4 gamers" articles has a guy doing exactly this. Careful reading has also removed the "mounted" rule for bikes and weapons, meaning there's no difference between the way old chaos bikes used to have their plasmaguns "mounted" while marines held them in their hands. If you are bike infantry, you fire things a certain way. If not, you fire them a different way. A bike can move and fire heavy weapons I believe.

I think I'll save them for bigger games, when they can have a tooled out farseer that can fortune his own rock-hard squad of warlocks and doom the enemy as well.

But I do like the doubled fire dragon squad as opposed to the farseer for the small 1k list.

Thinking of starting Eldar, 1k initial list

As far as the autarch goes, he can, in fact, move and fire his reaper launcher since bike units are relentless.

Having a farseer is not a requirement for having warlocks in your army. However, without the farseer, the only place you can put them is in guardian based squads (like your jetbikes).

Ditching the farseer for more fire dragons is ok. However, you may want to consider keeping him. What he can do is ride in the wave serpent with the dragons. Then when they get out, he can just stay inside. Since farseer powers (other than mind war and eldrich storm) don't need line of sight or anything else, he can cast doom from inside the serpent. In general, I find that more than 6 fire dragons in one squad tends to be overkill.

As for your plans for the future, you may want to consider putting some warlocks in those bike squads. Both embolden and destructor would be helpful. You may also want to consider a 3rd heavy suppor choice...maybe a falcon.

Squad can only fire at a single thing and it's a waste to have that big of a squad. You are much better off running two squads of 5 or two squads of 6. Granted, that will cost more as you'll most likely need a transportation for both.

I've read in other places that the Holo Field on Prisms might not always be worth taking (due to the fact that a weapon destroyed leaves it not in good shape) so it might be a way to save 70 points for more troops/what not. While it's not bad, it isn't wipeing out whole squads in one go unless they are combat squads. The heavy flamer is in fact great against hordes, but melta guns are not. So if you are shooting the flamer at a horde, you are wasting the fire power of the rest of the squad. Yet another reason to keep the squad small. Spending 16 points each on fire dragons to shoot at orcs or gaunts or guardians or IG troopers is a complete waste when you can have more effective dire avengers for 12 or scorpions for 16. Keep the dragon small. They are good at doing what they do (busting tanks), make sure you use them to do it.
