My Black Templar 1750 list ... please help

This is my 1750 Black Templar list..... Please let me know what problems or suggestions you might have...... my greatest concern is that my gun line may be too weak for hoard army's .

HQ.
Marshal - 175
-Power weapon
-Storm sheild
-Artificer armour
-Adamantite mantle
-terminator honours

Emperor's champion - 140
-Accept any challenge, no matter the odds

TROOP
Crusader squad - 450
-Crudaders x 10
-melta gun
-power fist
-Land Raider Cusader

Crusader squad - 179
-Crusader x 9
-Melta gun
-Power fist
-Frag grenade

Crusader squad - 203
-Crusader x 8
-Melta gun
-Power fist
-Melta gun
-Drop pod
-Deathwind Launcher

Crusader squad - 203
-Crusader x 8
-Melta gun
-Power fist
-Melta gun
-Drop pod
-Deathwind Launcher

Heavy support
Land Raider - 250

Predator - 125
-Auto cannon
-Lascannon side sponsons

Typically I like to go second. I do my best to hide my land raiders and preditor from any big strength weapons,, and then on my turn make them my first priority. I use My marshal in the LRC with the 10 man squad to go after their most dangerous infantry units and the EC goes into the LR with the 9 man squad. Typically I do very well in close combat because of my EC vow, my whole army hits on 3's all the time. The drop pods I drop close to objectives on my oponents side of the table to harass what ever units they may be using to capture them with. I have had a lot of success with this army, but i feel like my victory's were less than fantastic. I also fel like I may be vulnerable to hoard army's please help with your comments and idea's .... I also have 25 points left in my list that I have tryed many different things with but have had no real pull to any one thing ..... idea's ?

My Black Templar 1750 list ... please help

I think that between the 70 points of unecessary gear on your Marshal, the 518 points of Land Raiders that could be spent on 30 scoring models, and the mismatched configuration Predator of 125 points, you have a lot of room to beef out your Troops (The real strength of BT, IMHO).

In 5th, Melta weapons are the new Lascannon. With AP1 and 2D6 Armor Penetration at half-range, melta weapons trump the long range stance taken by sit-and-shoot Lascannons. The superiority of Melta weapons as compared to Lascannons (in the case of BT anyway) is further emphasized by the fact that the Templars are an in-your-face army that is designed to close with the enemy quickly. Having mobile support elements that can Fist or Meltabomb/Meltagun a target to death while keeping with the main force of the army is vital to army cohesion.

Black Templar armies should move as one. Using Attack Bikes with Multi-Meltas or Land Speeders with Multi-Meltas or even Assault Squads with Power Fist and Meltabombs are excellent ways of remaining in step with your army and keeping everything together. If you want to supplement the CC power of your list while providing antitank, take the Assault Marines, or even better (if you have the points of course) take Terminators with Tank Hunters. Being the only army capable of taking 2 Tank-Hunting Assault Cannons in a 5-6 man squad, Terminators are the ultimate midrange fire support unit for Templars.

I've recently started playing around with Infiltrating/Outflanking Sword Brethren instead (seeing as how all my Termies defected over to the Deathwing), but have been met with mediocre results. Utilizing you Fast Attack and Elites choices is key to supporting your Troops, which on their own can only hope for good Zeal rolls -- not a winning strategy in any case.

CK

You are not the first to express the dislike of the preditor weapons platform.... I have moved those points around alot... tried a vindy, a dread (both long range and base configuration). The one concern I have with getting rid of it is what do I do when I play a tyrnid army for instance and want to stay as far away as possible for as long as possible. The lascannans and auto cannons allow me to stay back and shoot.... I have also concidered changing the land raider to another LRC. Both the increase in troop killing power, and the ability to deploy it as part of a troop choice( in dawn of war deployment for instance) make it attractive. The wargear on my marshall simply plays into my playing style. I use my commander.... ALOT. He is always in the thick of the battle, against the most chalanging units.... the wargear is not something I can see my self giving up do to the way I use him. The double land raider is the beef of my army... I started this army after 5E came out. I descided I wanted to try and use two landraiders.. So concidering it was the basses for the army I can't get ride of either one. I have concidered droppinf one of my drop pod squads for a squad of terminators.. But was afraid that 3 scoring units wasn't enough... Does anyone know if the zeal moves can be used to enter base-to-base contact now
