painting demin

ok, so I want my orks to wear levi's lol

Basically my orks, which have black armour, dark shaded skin and boltgun metal weapons, with a red spot colour on details such as glyphs, checks etc are going to have thier trousers/tops done in either a snakebite-based khaki, a codex grey-based khaki or denim.

slight problem is I don't know how to paint denim, have tried the search function but no avail,

I experimented with regal blue basecoat with a drybrush of a blue/grey (space wolves I think) and a badab black wash but it just looked like the model had suffered wear and tear and the paint was scratched

any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to base coat with the color of blue that you choose and then dry brush a white and grey over the blue. I have used drybrushing on Cadian Sniper capes and the look is somewhat of a "stonewash denim" look.

I'm not an expert but I play one on Tv

Well you could always get some extra fine cheesecloth and glue it on the model to give the denim texture. Then again the weave might be too big but its worth a try.

http://www.fantes.com/strainers.html

Why not get a pair of jeans and copy them. Working from life is so much better. Just as if you are painting a picture of the jeans , but paint it onto the model instead of a canvas.

I've done (purely by accidental experiment) the base of regal, and then very very lightly drybrush white.

Its not perfect, but if you are doing mass quantities it will work. If its for a centerpiece model, then maybe not.
