What have you done to the gold areas so far? I know how pics can be so once we hear what steps you've taken it'll be easier to give some tips.

Definitely do something with the barrel. Drilling it is the way to go.

I like your highlighting of the black. Very subtle but it's there. The eyes are awesome, very sinister. The base I like too...looks like you went with a minimalist approach, then tossed in a couple things to break it up a bit. Also you may want to highlight the skull hanging between his legs on the back of the tabbard. It still looks like it's scorched brown.
