My buddy who is not on the forums plays dwarves and had asked me to clarify this for him.

If he drops the oathstone (uses it) can he pick it back up after and continue moving or is he stuck in that spot for the rest of the game

ive no idea but it seems to me that the char would be stationary the rest of the time

thanks.

Alright, here's what you do. Open the dwarf book to page 28, show him the bit where it says 'oathstones', go down to point two where it says "The unit may not move in any way unless forced to flee..." and then write it on your hand and slap him with it untill he gets the point.

Re:Oathstone

Yeah I see your issue more clearly now. Here's a possible soultion:

Ask him to show you where it says he can pick it back up? The rules state the dwarf "may place his oathstone.." to get the benefits. Ok done. Now when he says he is going to pick it up and start moving again simply ask him again to show you the rule where it states that a dwarf "may pick up his oathstone".

The problem is he is trying to apply logic to the situation based on real world physics. I can put a stone down in real life. and I can pick it up in real life. However in our fantasy land of WHFB a dwarf can only place the stone and can never pick it up according to the rules as written.

EDIT: as previously stated the rules for placing are on page 28. Just so you can help him find it quickly to look for the "pick up my stone rule" which doesn't exist.

Cheers

But a unit that won't move is different from one that can't move. Typically, your talking a Lord, fully kitted out, plus a unit of Hammerers or perhaps even Ironbreakers, sitting there doing absolutely nothing. And with my Dragon type thing tactic, they HAVE to drop it, or else I'm going to flatten then. If I flank them, the precious, expensive Lord isn't getting to fight, and I can inflict a telling blow with a resultant lowered Ld break test. And I don't see them risking it. At least, they never have with me.

Re:Oathstone

Ahh but if he simply challenges your dragon rider you have no choice but to accept and fight him one on one. Therefor no need to drop the oathstone and chances are if his dwarf is armoured correctly you won't do much if anything to him. And even if you do kill the lord you would need to at least overkill it by a fare margin to cancel his 5+ static CR to not make a leadership and flee yourself. Your dragon tactic really doesn't work in this situation if the palyer is smart enough to challenge with his kited out lord.

Actually, the CR is only +1 in the Dwarf favor at that point (Dragon nullifies ranks, and side charge gives +1, so unit strength + banner - side charge = +1 to the Dwarf block).
