Chaos terminators and rapidfire

Page 86 of the codex says that "Models in Terminator armour are capable of moving and firing with heavy weapons and may assault after firing rapid fire and heavy weapons."

I assume this means that they can move and fire twice at 12 inches but they cannot move and fire once at 24 inches? I ask because most people i see are playing them that they can move and fire at 24 inches but all it says is they can assault after using rapidfire weapons, not that they count as immobile.

The argument i hear is that as of 5th terminators are relentless and under that rule it does say they count as stationary. In the new loyalist codex it specifies that their terminators are relentless, but as this is not done in the chaos codex i assume they arn't? Or is there something in the main rulebook saying that all terminators are relentless?

Chaos terminators and rapidfire

You assume rightly. A rapid fire weapon requires that the model using it remain stationary (or count as remaining stationary) to get the maximum ranged shot.

Most people, if comments on this forums can be parsed as coming from 'most people', play it as if the Terminator Armour described in Codex: Chaos Space Marines confers the Relentless rule and hence count as stationary. This isn't what the rules actually say, but how people decide to play doesn't have to follow the rules.

But remember, Chaos Terminators have the equipment described in their own codex, not in the Space Marine codex. Despite popular acclaim, Chaos Space Marines are not Spikey Space Marines any more than Eldar are Slim Tasteful Space Marines. A Chaos Space Marine is not a Space Marine, just as a Prairie Dog is not a dog.

Chaos terminators and rapidfire

I've mentioned this before, but I may as well say it again.

Chaos Terminators do not have Relentless. They have a rule that is very specific in that they only count as stationary when firing heavy weapons, not rapid fire weapons.

I believe this is intentional and is used to further differentiate the 'newer' pattern of Storm Bolters with the old Twin Bolters that Chaos Terminators have. It's a similar weapon, just older tech and I think GW wanted to better represent this in the rules than how they were before.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense with the balance between twin linked bolter and storm bolter. TL-bolter is much better at >12" and worse otherwise.
